This year will be no exception. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5TH FURRY FRIENDS DAY/DEDICATION OF SKY PORTAL From 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Friendly pets of all kinds are invited to bring their owners. A pet parade, pet costume contest, pet- friendly vendors and agility demonstrations will be featured. A DJ, family-friendly fun, and more await visitors. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The public dedication of a new art installation by artist Randy Walker, SKY PORTAL, will be held at 1 p.m. Sky Portal is a large-scale public art piece that offers experiences of both the sky and ground, similar to the experience of being in a balloon. A shiny metallic surface in the center of Sky Portal will reflect the ever changing sky and balloons floating overhead, as well as giving a perspective of the ground as seen from a balloon. DAILY ACTIVITIES Each morning at 6 a.m. DAWN PATROL will open the geodesic dome on the north grounds of the Balloon Museum and invite visitors inside for a 360o view of inflation, lift, flying, chasing and landing a balloon. The video and audio experience is interactive and totally immersive, and the sensations of each segment will feel very real, to the point that people report feeling that they are actually moving through space. Another fun interactive feature at the Balloon Museum is SKYLIGHT. Created by the UNM Social Media Working Group, the National Science Foundation-funded project explores the concept of harvesting electricity from multiple sources of renewable energy. On the Museum’s north side—very visible from the Field—the large balloon-shaped window will be alive with interactive LED lights constantly changing as text messages ask visitors with smart phones to test their knowledge of sky-related trivia. The lights and patterns will change in real time based on responses to a fun ‘quiz’ about the alternative energy potentials that surround us in the air and sky, like solar, wind and others. Each morning the Balloon Museum Foundation will present the DIAMOND CLUB™, featuring a gourmet breakfast, VIP parking pass, full access to the Museum, as well as the opportunity to view the ascension from one of the best locations available anywhere. This year the Foundation is introducing DIAMOND CLUB FAMILY™ that offers a lower-cost option that 3 is family-centered. For more information on both Diamond Club options, visit www.balloonmuseum.com.
