The 45,000m2 precinct is a showcase of sustainable building and design incorporating living lab features which spans across two multi-storey towers. The centre is not only utilised as a building for students to study in but it is also an energy and water efficient structure, which can be researched and monitored by students and leading academics. The design itself has essentially brought together teaching and research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics in what has been classed as a world-leading model. As well as being a centre for the development of teaching and learning, this world leading structure exemplifies cutting edge research and sustainability solutions. With sustainability as a guiding principle in the design and construction of this precinct, the project attracted an ‘Australian Excellence’ Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia. This sustainability showpiece is so “green” that it is even powered by trees – solar trees, of course, that are programmed to follow the sun, thereby drawing maximum energy every day. The Centre is a certified 5-star Green Star rated building in “Education v1” for “Design”. It is powered by a combination of grid power, natural gas and solar energy, generating enough electricity to power itself and put power back into the QUT grid. This tri-generation system has been engineered to reuse rather than lose heat; with heat being used to cool the air-conditioning systems, de-humidify labs and heat the swimming pool. ASSA ABLOY Australia representative Simon Rees collaborated over a 3½ year period with the project architects (Wilson Architects and Donovan Hill) and the project builder, Leighton Contractors to ensure a successful project outcome. ASSA ABLOY product specified into the build included 3P70 pentagon mortice locks, 1800/70 furniture and Abloy Protec cylinder system. Volume 2, Issue 4 May 2010 The Australasian Society for Motorsports Medicine and Rescue Contents Race control Clinical review Recent race results Worldwide motorsport update Caught by the cameras Race control Welcome to the May edition of the ASMMR newsletter. The various racing categories are moving on a pace and there is plenty to talk about in the world of motorsport medicine and rescue. This issue takes a look at some track safety devices; namely the run-off areas and gravel traps – the pros, the cons and the downright scary. There is a review of recent race events and a few highlights from other aspects of motorsporting news. If you have ever wanted to know what a tank slapper, a lambda reading or reactive suspension was, then skip to the Wikipedia motorsports terminology link. Good luck. Matthew Mac Partlin Technical review Track safety devices – Run-offs and gravel traps Competitors and race vehicles can be fully prepared with safety equipment, but at some point or other a vehicle will unintentionally veer off the track. Sometimes the driver will be able to gather it up and rejoin the race, if there is sufficient space to do so. However, there is often a conflict between race track safety, spectator friendliness and geography. The safest track would probably be a straight road, with a wide run-off to either side and at either end and have no more Copyright Matthew Mac Partlin, 2010 Page 1 of 9 than a couple of cars competing on it at any one time. But it wouldn’t be terribly interesting to compete in or to watch.

The agreement, which has been almost a year in the making since its initial concept in early 2011, is a reality with the newly formed team operating under a Customer Sports Program of AMG.
