Diana, Princess of Wales
Diana, Princess of Wales The Lady Diana Frances Spencer (Diana Frances Mountbatten- Windsor, née Spencer) (1 July 1961–31 August 1997) was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales. From her marriage in 1981 to her divorce in 1996 she was styled Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales. After her divorce in 1996, Diana ceased to be a Royal Highness and The Princess of Wales and instead was styled Diana, Princess of Wales. She was often called Princess Diana by the media and the public, but this was incorrect both during and after her marriage, as she was only ever a Princess by marriage, not by birth.' An iconic presence on the world- stage, Diana, Princess of Wales was noted for her pioneering charity work. Yet her philanthropic endeavours were overshadowed by her scandal-plagued marriage to Prince Charles. Her bitter accusations via friends and biographers of adultery, mental cruelty and emotional distress visited upon her riveted the world for much of the 1990s, spawning books, magazine articles and television movies. From the time of her engagement to the Prince of Wales in 1981 until her death in a car accident in 1997, the Princess was arguably the most famous woman in the world, the pre-eminent female celebrity of her generation: a fashion icon, an image of feminine beauty, admired and emulated for her high-profile involvement in AIDS issues and the international campaign against landmines. During her lifetime, she was often referred to as the most photographed person in the world. To her admirers, The Princess of Wales was a role model — after her death, there were even calls for her to be nominated for sainthood — while her detractors saw her life as a cautionary tale of how an obsession with publicity can ultimately destroy an individual. -

Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 ABSTRACT This thesis aims to prove the existence of contemporary Mexican travel-chronicling. Section 2 concentrates on two recent series of travel-chronicles commissioned by Alianza Editorial Mexicana and the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (1989-1997). The purpose of this section is to examine the variety of contemporary, and possibly postmodern, approaches to this stubbornly realist and traditional genre. Authors studied in detail are: Juan Villoro and Francisco Hinojosa (an ironic approach to the effects of postmodemity and postmodernism on Mexican life and the practice of travel-chronicling); Rafael Ramirez Heredia and Orlando Ortiz (the commonplaces of the contemporary travel- chronicle); Hector Perea and Alvaro Ruiz Abreu (an increasingly speculative, metaphorical approach); Fernando Solana Olivares and Hugo Diego Blanco (a move towards ‘archival fictions’ (Gonzalez Echevarria) which use previous travel-chronicles as an ‘archive’, rather than as models for form and content). -

Preface This cultural history of Narberth was written by Victoria Donohoe, a lifelong resident of Narberth. It was written over a forty-year period from about 1980 until her death in 2018. Victoria did not complete the book but left it in manuscript form in her house. Neighbor and friend Nancy Greene, who had helped type chapters for Victoria in the last years of her life, was able to secure Victoria's writings (and supporting documentation) when Victoria was moved into a retirement home. Victoria died before the book could be completed but Nancy has typed and organized the material as closely as possible to the way she believes Victoria would have wanted it. -

Nobody seemed to know, the gentleman’s passing comment was that he thought the origins were Spanish. I decided to look the word up on the internet and this is the result (Wikipedia). Ahoy is a signal word used to call to a ship or boat, stemming from the Middle English cry, 'Hoy!’ The word had fallen into obsolescence before rising from obscurity as the sport of sailing increased in popularity. -
