The audience rose to their feet.” – The Huffington Post FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, August 15, 2019) – Janis Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of Rock ‘N’ Roll. In A Night with Janis Joplin, presented at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus’ Merriam Theater on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at 7:30 p.m., Tony Award® nominee Mary Bridget Davies and a remarkable cast take the audience on a musical journey celebrating Janis Joplin and her biggest musical influences – trailblazers like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone, and Bessie Smith. Fresh off Broadway, this sensational musical has the feel of a rock concert and features such unforgettable songs as “Piece of My Heart,” “Cry Baby,” “Me and Bobby McGee,” and many others. The show’s star, Mary Bridget Davies, is an American singer and actress who is also an interpreter of Janis Joplin's music. She received a Tony® Award nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Musical for her performance as Joplin in the Broadway production of A Night With Janis Joplin. She has toured in Europe with Joplin's original band, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and has formed her own band, The Mary Bridget Davies Group, that tours in festivals and clubs worldwide.
