  • Blues Underground Network (Featuring David Gogo "Christmas
Blues Underground Network David Gogo "Christmas With The Blues" (Canada) I will be the first to admit that I really like the good old fashioned Christmas songs, White Christmas, Twelve Days Of Christmas, Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, and countless others, sung by the greats Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Gene Autry, Perry Como, and Jose Feliciano, to name just a few. I also really like the modern day artists that have stepped forward, putting a little polish on the old standards or offering up their own originals, such as David Gogo's absolutely amazing new release, "Christmas With The Blues", which offers up 9 blues inspired Tracks of both standards and originals. Now David Gogo would certainly not have been my first thought as someone whom would of put out a Christmas Album, in fact he never thought he would either, never the less, he has and boy it quickly has become a favorite around here this Christmas Season and will for many more to come. Using his superb Vocals and amazing stinging Guitar work, David Gogo slices through 9 Tracks as effortlessly as a hot knife slicing through butter, but it isn't just Gogo that brings the magic to this little gem, it is also the stellar lineup of artists he brought along with him on this journey, which included greats Bill Hicks (Drums), Marisha Devoin (Acoustic Stand-Up Bass), David Vest (Piano), Phil Dwyer (Saxophones and Piano on Track 5), Jay Stevens (Bass on Track 9), Tina Jones & Camille Miller (Vocals Track 9), and Shawn Hall (Harmonica).

Mill Valley Oral History Program A collaboration between the Mill Valley Historical Society and the Mill Valley Public Library David Getz An Oral History Interview Conducted by Debra Schwartz in 2020 © 2020 by the Mill Valley Public Library TITLE: Oral History of David Getz INTERVIEWER: Debra Schwartz DESCRIPTION: Transcript, 60 pages INTERVIEW DATE: January 9, 2020 In this oral history, musician and artist David Getz discusses his life and musical career. Born in New York City in 1940, David grew up in a Jewish family in Brooklyn. David recounts how an interest in Native American cultures originally brought him to the drums and tells the story of how he acquired his first drum kit at the age of 15. David explains that as an adolescent he aspired to be an artist and consequently attended Cooper Union after graduating from high school. David recounts his decision to leave New York in 1960 and drive out to California, where he immediately enrolled at the San Francisco Art Institute and soon after started playing music with fellow artists. David explains how he became the drummer for Big Brother and the Holding Company in 1966 and reminisces about the legendary Monterey Pop Festival they performed at the following year. He shares numerous stories about Janis Joplin and speaks movingly about his grief upon hearing the news of her death. David discusses the various bands he played in after the dissolution of Big Brother and the Holding Company, as well as the many places he performed over the years in Marin County. He concludes his oral history with a discussion of his family: his daughters Alarza and Liz, both of whom are singer- songwriters, and his wife Joan Payne, an actress and singer.

Throughout the years she has compiled an impressive record of musical accomplishments. Suzie is a musical Jack-of-all-trades. These have ranged from live shows beside some of North America's top acts (Alan Frew, Jeff Healey, Dave Navarro, P!NK, INXS, Gavin Rossdale) to consummate professionalism tracking in the studio (Kara Dioguardi, Steven Tyler, Buckcherry, Matt Nathanson, Foreigner) to commercial jingles, to performing in front of crowds of up to 200,000 people. Suzie was the last woman standing on CBS television's reality series Rockstar:INXS. Most everything contained will be multiple CD sets, DVDs, CD/DVD sets, books and the like. Of course, you can always look though our back issues to see what came out in 2017 (and prior years), but none of us would want to attempt to decide which CDs would be a fitting ad- dition to this guide. As with 2016, the year 2017 was a bit on the lean side as far as reviews go of box sets, books and DVDs - it appears tht the days of mass quantities of boxed sets are over - but we do have some to check out. These are in no particular order in terms of importance or release dates.
