COMMUNITY ACTION More free web Mencap Rickmansworth Want to join?

Would your organisation be interested in supporting the community internet scheme?

Please contact Kevin Snow 01923 727255 [email protected] for more information.

Free internet use will be available at Mill End Community Centre, Watersmeet and MENCAP in Rickmansworth and at Sarratt Post Office from January. The community internet scheme will use old Council computers plugged into venues existing broadband connections. All computers will have office software and will be protected to make sure content is suitable for families. The pilot scheme will be extended if it is popular.

Sarratt residents have teamed up to buy Sarratt Post Office to help it continue and grow as a community run service and are including free computer and internet access as part of their plans.

Sarratt resident and project member David Alexander says: P roviding internet access for those members of the community unable to access it from their homes or elsewhere is an example of the types of community initiatives we see as important steps we can take as a community run enterprise to be as meaningful and supportive to the Sarratt community as possible.

The computers will allow one hour free use during normal opening hours. The scheme follows the success of the Herts County Council free internet service in its libraries in Three Rivers and across the county. For a free introduction to using the internet please Bedmond Toy contact your local library.
