We will gather together for our next Movie Discussion Night at 6pm on Saturday, August 23 at the home of Tom and Dianne Meyers, 245 Manchester Way in Middletown. The film to watch before you come is "Philomena", starring Judi Dench. The movie is based on a true story of a woman's search for her son who was taken away from her at his birth 50 years earlier. Find out what happens by watching the movie, then join us for discussion. Please bring a dish to share and come ready to talk about the social and religious questions raised by the story and the values it highlights. Contact Glenn Rill or Suzanne Souder (302/322-1692) for directions, or if you want to join a carpool as either rider or driver. ST. ANNE’S GUILD MEETING. We will have food, fun and games for all! Sign-up sheets will be posted on the church porch for those who are able to bring something to eat, something on which to grill, or a game to play. MUSICK ON THE GREEN………….by Jack Burnam THE IMMANUEL BACH CONSORT has announced its second season, in residence at Immanuel on the Green, as an all-professional vocal and instrumental chamber ensemble specializing in the performance of J. S. Bach’s Cantatas and other sacred vocal works. The first presentation of the new season by the Consort will be Sunday, September 14 at 4pm: a service of German Vespers, much as it might have been experienced in 18th-century Leipzig, including the expressive and deeply moving Cantata No. 106, Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit (“God’s time is always best”). This is also the initiation of Immanuel’s annual series of Choral Evensong the second Sunday of each month. Some of Bach’s greatest, most profound music may be found in his Cantatas; ironically, it is also some of the least- often-heard of his work. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Gary Harney, the Immanuel Bach Consort seeks to fill this void by performing specially-adapted chamber versions of the cantatas, along with music by some of Bach’s contemporaries. These unique, elegant performances are presented completely free of charge to our parish and community; they are absolutely “don’t miss” events of the highest order. Details of the entire season—dates, times, works to be performed and guest artists, plus extensive and fascinating commentary, and a downloadable publicity flyer—may be found on the Consort’s attractive website: http://www.immanuelbachconsort.org/. Go there! THE ROSS TREBLE CHOIR is looking for new members to join us in the fall! The Ross Choir offers an opportunity to all kids age 8 and older to receive valuable vocal training and music instruction at no cost, plus important life lessons in commitment, discipline, and teamwork, in weekly rehearsals and through regular participation in services about twice a month. Choristers do not need to be members of Immanuel, and no prior experience is required. If you know of someone who might be interested, please speak to Jack Burnam, contact him at [email protected], or call 302-559-9696. The first rehearsal this fall is September 7. SAVE THE DATE: Please save Saturday, October 4 on your calendar for a parish-wide Celebration commemorating the Founding and Dedication of Immanuel Church. The celebration will begin with a Parish Family Concert at 4:30pm in the church, with organ, instrumental and vocal offerings by musicians of our congregation; and it will feature, as well, an old-fashioned hymn sing! A Gala Reception and Silent Auction in the Academy will follow the concert; the Silent Auction will feature a wide range of offerings representing the talents of many individual parishioners. The following day, Sunday, October 5 we will observe the Feast of Dedication at our Sunday morning services. Freewill contributions and all proceeds from the Silent Auction will benefit singers from Immanuel Choir who will be travelling to England in August 2015 as part of a larger choir-in-residence at Winchester Cathedral. More details to follow, but plan now to attend this fabulous event!
