Bull. In st. Zool., Academia Sinica 31(3): 141-161. In this study, the crab families, Ocypodidae and Mictyridae, from Taiwan are reviewed. The Ocypodidae is repre sented by eight genera and twenty-five species, including Paracleistostoma depressum de Man (a newly recorded species from Taiwan) and the Mictyridae, which is represented by only species-Myctyris brevidactylus Stimpson. The main morpho logical, distributional, and ecological characters of these species-with their keys to all taxonomical ranks-are provided. Key words: Taiwan, Ocypodidae, Mictyridae. Mictyridae, which mainly inhabit estuar Taiwanese crab fauna were first ies and littoral areas. A total of 7 genera studied by Maki and Tsuchiya (1923), wbo and 17 species of the Ocypodidae, and 1 reported 11 families, 36 genera, and 61 genus and 1 species of the .l'viictyridae, species. Later, Sakai (1935), Miyake are described here; diagnostic keys and (1938), and Horikawz, (1940) added 7, 10, illu strations are also provided. Another . and 7 species, respectively. In 1949, Lin eight species of the genus Uca of the listed 21 families, 108 genera, and 222 Ocypodidae have been reported on eles species in his catalogu e of the brachyu where (Huang et al., 1989). -

Casciaro, 73100 Lecce, Italy * corresponding author: [email protected] OCCURRENCE OF OCYPODE CURSOR (LINNAEUS, 1758) (CRUSTACEA, DECAPODA) IN SALENTO (SOUTHERN ITALY) SUMMARY Ocypode cursor (Linnaeus, 1758) is the only Ocypode species present in the Mediterranean Sea. It is widely distributed in the southern part of the basin (mainly African coast) and only recently it has been reported also from Sicil- ian Ionian sea. The present record is the first for Italian peninsula and the northernmost record of O. cursor in the Mediterranen Sea. INTRODUCTION The tufted ghost crab Ocypode cursor (Linnaeus, 1758) is a semi-terrestrial burrowing brachyuran of nocturnal habits generally found in supratidal and intertidal sandy beaches (STRACHAN et al., 1999). The species is the only member of the family Ocypodidae occurring in the Mediterranean Sea; specifically, it is characterized by a disjoint distribu- tion, comprising the eastern Mediterranean Sea and tropical coasts of the eastern Atlantic Ocean as far south as northern Namibia, with the exclusion of the western Mediterranean. -

End- Mt Kinabalu is a particularly strenuous climb. You will commence at 1800 metres ing at Labuan Island where the POW’s are buried in the Commonwealth War Graves - unrelenting. The second day commences in the early hours of the morning, and you kan Death March has been a “Conspiracy of Silence” until recent years. The story needs to be told. The views from Mt Kinabalu of the surrounding regions is stunning and worth every bit of exertion! This trek is the next step that all Australians who have walked with us along the Kokoda Trail should consider taking. The trek should be considered strenuous. AUD$3250 per person (4 trekkers or more) The trek is vehicle supported and provides an exit option each day for trekkers not wishing to undertake walking the whole track. We studied the ecology and growth of the sand bubbler crab Scopimera crabricauda Alcock, 1900, in the Persian Gulf, Iran. Crabs were sampled monthly by excavating nine quadrats at three intertidal levels during spring low tides from January 2016 to January 2017. Results: Population data show unimodal size-frequency distributions in both sexes. The Von Bertalanffy function was calculated at CWt = 8.76 [1 − exp (− 0.56 (t + 0.39))], CWt = 7.90 [1 − exp (− 0.59 (t + 0.40))] and CWt = 9.35 [1 − exp (− 0.57 (t + 0.41))] for males, females, and both sexes, respectively. The life span appeared to be 5.35, 5.07, and 5.26 years for males, females, and both sexes, respectively. The cohorts were identified as two age continuous groups, with the mean model carapace width 5.39 and 7.11 mm for both sexes. The natural mortality (M) coefficients stood at 1.72 for males, 1.83 for females, and 1.76 years−1 for both sexes, respectively. The overall sex ratio (1:0.4) was significantly different from the expected 1:1 proportion with male-biased. -

During that time, it was noted for its air force surveillance centre which protected the area from Port Swettenham or previously known as Port Klang to Port Dickson. It also acted as a military logistics that planned and carried out the movement, supply, and maintenance of military forces to sustenance Morib area. Currently, this historical structure and its remains have no longer exist. The area has now been transformed to a palm oil plantation. As time goes by, this airfield has been forgotten and invisible to our young generation. In addition to that, there are lack of literature and studies about the history and its roles during and after World War II. -

These crabs have been used as ecological 17 indicators of the levels of anthropogenic impacts on sandy beaches. Our aim is to report the 18 variety of burrow architecture types constructed by ghost crabs Ocypode quadrata on 19 beaches of Maceió, Brazil. We found 20 types of burrows that differ in shape (number of 20 axes, number of openings, orientation of blind end, number of branches). The slash-shaped 21 burrows (type C) were the most frequent shape, followed by types K (spiral) and E (Y- 22 shaped).
