  • Hematite Mineralization at Bukit Lop, Chaah, Johor
210 Hematite mineralization at Bukit Lop. Chaah. Johor YUSRI ZAKARIAH & MOHD SHAFEEA LEMAN Jabatan Geologi, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Several iron and barite mines were reported by Bean (1969) to have' operated in northwest Johor, including the Sri Medan, Bukit Lop, Bukit Kepong and Bukit Tui mines. In 1986, the Bukit Lop iron mine was reopened by the Matahari Mining Sdn. Bhd. The mine which is located on the southeastern spur of Bukit Lop ridge, about 10 km southwest of Chaah Town exposed some details about the geology of the mineralization discussed in this paper. The main iron ore deposit occurs both as primary and secondary deposits. The primary mineralization occurred in a massive unit of andesitic volcanic unit of the Upper Mesozoic continental deposit known as the Ma'Okil Formation (Loganathan, 1978). The maximum thickness of the ore bodies reaches up to 20 m thick with concordant as well as discordant nature of displacement. From the first (old) adit, the main ore body is discordant to the general strike of the host rock (Bean, 1969; Zakaria Hussain, 1994) while from the second (new) adit the main ore body is concordant to the strike of the host rock. The secondary iron ore deposit occurred as basal conglomerate of the conglomerate unit overlying the andesite. Mohd Shafeea Leman & Yusri Zakariah (in press) considered that these iron conglomerate beds represent a series of alluvial fans deposited along a faulted andesitic volcanic rocks. The main ore deposit comprise of hematite with traces of magnetite (Bean, 1969). Minor baryte occurrences were also reported from this locality (Bean, 1969; Zakaria Hussain, 1994).

  • The Effect of Consumption and the Labour Force Participation Rate (Lfpr) on Economic Growth in North Sumatera Province
THE EFFECT OF CONSUMPTION AND THE LABOUR FORCE PARTICIPATION RATE (LFPR) ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NORTH SUMATERA PROVINCE Indra Maipita Faculty of Economics Universitas Negeri Medan Email: [email protected] Abstract North Sumatera Provincial Government in implementing regional autonomy and fiscal decentralization policies has tried to implement it based on the needs of each district/city so that a prosperous society is created. The prosperity achieved is not only reflected in high economic growth but is also supported by the fulfillment of realizable consumption needs and the abundant availability of reliable human resources. This study discusses the effect of two variables contained in fiscal decentralization, the level of public consumption and labor absorption on economic growth in North Sumatra. The method used by researchers is regression using panel data (pooled data) or called the panel data regression model. The estimation results show the regression coefficient of the CONS variable is -0.185883. This means that with each increase in CONS by 1 percent, economic growth will decrease by 0.18 percent and vice versa. The effect of the CONS variable on EG is negative and significant at the 95 percent confidence level and the estimation results show the regression coefficient of the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) variable of 0.442641. This means that for each increase in LFPR by 1 percent, economic growth will increase by 0.44 percent and vice versa. The effect of the LFPR variable on PE is significant at the 95 percent confidence level. _________________________________ Key words: Consumption; labour force participation rate; economic growth INTRODUCTION n the current era of regional autonomy, good governance is something that cannot be negotiated and absolutely must be fulfilled.

Syurya Hidayat 2 1Faculty of Economic and Business, University of Jambi, Jambi, Indonesia * (e-mail) [email protected] 2Faculty of Economic and Business, University of Jambi, Jambi, Indonesia, * (e-mail) [email protected] Abstract To realize its investment, the Province of Jambi must have an information feasibility that can Guide the investment feasibility study. They required preliminary data on pre- eminent commodities in the districts/cities, descriptions of the land types suitability and factors that are expected to affect investment realization. Each city and district has different land suitability data. The five districts studied Generally have two types of soil, namely, red yellow podozolic soil and peat soil (organosol). The city of Jambi has more reGional advantaGes compared to other districts because it is supported by a strateGic location, has appeals to investors due to the elevated location and the distribution of the inlands/districts. Muaro Jambi regency as the main zone city should be able to anticipate the city faster development for example by developing palm oil or rubber derivation industry with red yellow podzolic condition. The similar case applies to the upstream of West TanjunG JabunG which needs to be prioritized and investment promotion breakthrough. Whereas, the downstream of West Tanjung Jabung is expected to capture investment opportunities in fishery or aquatic sub-sector.

  • A Taxonomic Revision of Araceae Tribe Potheae (Pothos, Pothoidium and Pedicellarum) for Malesia, Australia and the Tropical Western Pacific
449 A taxonomic revision of Araceae tribe Potheae (Pothos, Pothoidium and Pedicellarum) for Malesia, Australia and the tropical Western Pacific P.C. Boyce and A. Hay Abstract Boyce, P.C. 1 and Hay, A. 2 (1Herbarium, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Richmond, Surrey, TW9 3AE, U.K. and Department of Agricultural Botany, School of Plant Sciences, The University of Reading, Whiteknights, P.O. Box 221, Reading, RS6 6AS, U.K.; 2Royal Botanic Gardens, Mrs Macquarie’s Road, Sydney, NSW 2000, Australia) 2001. A taxonomic revision of Araceae tribe Potheae (Pothos, Pothoidium and Pedicellarum) for Malesia, Australia and the tropical Western Pacific. Telopea 9(3): 449–571. A regional revision of the three genera comprising tribe Potheae (Araceae: Pothoideae) is presented, largely as a precursor to the account for Flora Malesiana; 46 species are recognized (Pothos 44, Pothoidium 1, Pedicellarum 1) of which three Pothos (P. laurifolius, P. oliganthus and P. volans) are newly described, one (P. longus) is treated as insufficiently known and two (P. sanderianus, P. nitens) are treated as doubtful. Pothos latifolius L. is excluded from Araceae [= Piper sp.]. The following new synonymies are proposed: Pothos longipedunculatus Ridl. non Engl. = P. brevivaginatus; P. acuminatissimus = P. dolichophyllus; P. borneensis = P. insignis; P. scandens var. javanicus, P. macrophyllus and P. vrieseanus = P. junghuhnii; P. rumphii = P. tener; P. lorispathus = P. leptostachyus; P. kinabaluensis = P. longivaginatus; P. merrillii and P. ovatifolius var. simalurensis = P. ovatifolius; P. sumatranus, P. korthalsianus, P. inaequalis and P. jacobsonii = P. oxyphyllus. Relationships within Pothos and the taxonomic robustness of the satellite genera are discussed. Keys to the genera and species of Potheae and the subgenera and supergroups of Pothos for the region are provided.
