Bull. In st. Zool., Academia Sinica 31(3): 141-161. In this study, the crab families, Ocypodidae and Mictyridae, from Taiwan are reviewed. The Ocypodidae is repre­ sented by eight genera and twenty-five species, including Paracleistostoma depressum de Man (a newly recorded species from Taiwan) and the Mictyridae, which is represented by only species-Myctyris brevidactylus Stimpson. The main morpho­ logical, distributional, and ecological characters of these species-with their keys to all taxonomical ranks-are provided. Key words: Taiwan, Ocypodidae, Mictyridae. TwEEDiE, M.A. The material described in this paper has been collected for the most part during the last four years, mainly in mangrove swamps around Singapore Island and at a few localities on the east and west coasts of the Malay Peninsula. The greater part of the paper and most of the figures were prepared at the British Museum (Natural History) during August and September, 1936, and my grateful acknowledgments are due to the Director for permission to work there and for facilities provided, and particularly to Dr. Isabella Gordon for her unfailing help and encouragement. I wish also to express my thanks to the Directorates of the Zoological Museums at Leiden and Amsterdam for permission to examine types, and for the helpfulness and courtesy with which I was received by the members of the staffs of these museums. Shen for their kindness in comparing specimens with types and authentic specimens in their respective institutions. The mode adopted for collecting the material may be of interest to collectors of Crustacea, and possibly other invertebrate groups, in the tropics. It was found that if crabs, especially Grapsidse and Ocypodidse, are put straight into alcohol, they tend to die slowly and in their struggles to shed their limbs and damage each other, so that often less than 10% of the collection survive as perfect specimens.

However, a close examination of adult and first stage zoeal morphology confirms some previous suggestions that S. anomalus is actually an anomalous member of the Dotillidae Stimpson, 1858. However, because a number of distinctive features distinguish it from Dotilla Stimpson, 1858, Ilyoplax Stimpson, 1858 and Scopimera de Haan, 1833, a new subfamily Sheniinae is established. 1 Key words: Crustacea, Brachyura, new subfamily, Dotillidae, Sheniinae, new subfamily, systematics Introduction Shen (1935) described an unusual thoracotreme crab species from China, Camptandrium anomalum. He noted that although its carapace closely resembled the known species of Camptandrium Stimpson, 1858, it nevertheless had many atypical features such as a unique shape of the male abdomen and unusually structured male first gonopods. The assignment of this species to Camptandrium was challenged by Serène (1968) and he eventually established a new genus to accommodate it, Shenius Serène, 1971. Although Serène (1974), Serène & Kumar (1971) and Serène & Moosa (1974) formally recognised the Camptandriinae Stimpson, 1858, as a distinct subfamily in the Ocypodidae Rafinesque, 1815, these authors were uncertain with regard to the placement of Shenius.

The space formed by the clustering of the oyster shells provides a habitat for at least eight species of crabs. Nanosesarma minutum was the dominant species (73.7% or n = 18 753) with an average of 59.5 ± 30.6 individuals/string/month, while the average monthly rate of ovigerous females was 12.6 ± 13.0%, and the average number of eggs per berried female was 1510.8 ± 1018.7 eggs/individual. Hemigrapsus penicillatus was the second dominant species (23.9% or n = 6074) with an average of 17.4 ± 17.1 individuals/string/month; here, the average monthly rate of ovigerous female crabs was 4.6 ± 9.0, and the average number of eggs of a berried female was 3073.4 ± 2167.5 eggs/individual. Three new genera, viz. Moguai, Nanusia and Takedellus, and a new species, Moguai aloutos, are described. The various genera can easily be separated by various carapace features, structures of the infraorbital "cup", male first gonopod, ischium and merus of the third maxilliped, postero-median tooth of the epistome, male abdomen, as well as presence or absence of sexual dimorphism in the chelae and dark bristles on the body. KEY WORDS. - Revision, Camptandriidae, Camptandrium, new genera, new species. INTRODUCTION The family Camptandriidae Stimpson, 1858 (sensu Ng, 1998) currently contains 39 species in 17 genera (Manning & Holthuis, 1981; Jones & Clayton, 1983; Dai & Song, 1986; Dai et al., 1986; Harminto & Ng, 1991; Manning, 1991; Tan & Huang, 1995; Tan & Humpherys, 1995; Al-Khayat & Jones, 1996). The family was originally established by Stimpson (1858) for one new genus and one new species, Camptandrium sexdentatum Stimpson, 1858. The type genus, Camptandrium, however, is not well known. According to Manning & Holthuis (1981), the genus contains five species, viz. Census of mangrove species with allometric meas- urements was conducted in selected plots, and census of macroinvertebrate species was conducted in quadrats inside of mangrove species census plots. Correlational analysis among allometrically estimated aboveground biomass of mangrove species and population of macroinvertebrate species was examined by clustering method. High level of similarity was resulted for specific macroinver- tebrate species with specific mangrove species in annual and seasonal basis. Moreover, indicator macroinvertebrate species is proposed based on indicator value index method. Các mối quan hệ giữa thực vật ngập mặn và động vật không xương sống cỡ lớn được phân tích trong các hệ sinh thái của Vườn quốc gia Xuân Thủy. Khảo sát về số lượng của các loài cây ngập mặn cùng với các phép đo tương quan sinh trưởng được tiến hành trong các ô tiêu chuẩn, và nghiên cứu về thành phần loài và mật độ động vật không xương sống cỡ lớn được thực hiện trong các ô tiêu chuẩn này.
