Na druhé stran však dochází sou asn k jejímu ochuzování v souvislosti s rozvojem lidské spole nosti. Z pohledu ochrany p írody se proto horské ekosystémy adí mezi jedno z nejcenn jších a nejohrožen jších prost edí v globálním m ítku. V rámci p edložené doktorské práce byly studovány vybrané potenciáln významné antropické vlivy na biodiverzitu horských bezlesí Hrubého Jeseníku prost ednictvím modelové bioindika ní skupiny brouk (Coleoptera). V prostoru primárního bezlesí arkto- alpinní tundry byl studován vliv sjezdových tratí a invazivní d eviny borovice kle e ( Pinus mugo ) na spole enstva brouk . Na území sekundárních bezlesí podhorských luk a pastvin byl hodnocen vliv zem dlského hospoda ení na brouky a další bezobratlé. Studium vlivu lyža ského areálu prokázalo, že p estože jsou sjezdové trat v alpínské zón zájmového území provozovány zp sobem šetrným k vegetaci, tak pr kazn m ní pvodní spole enstva epigeických brouk . -

AND POLONIC SUBPROVINCY Otakar Holuša Received: January 4, 2013 Abstract HOLUŠA OTAKAR: Psocid taxocenoses (Insecta: Psocoptera) in the forest ecosystems of the Querci-fageta s. lat. zone in the Western Carpathian Mts. and Polonic subprovincy. Acta Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2013, LXI, No. 3, pp. 637–646 Structure of psocid taxocenoses (Psocoptera) were intensively studied in forest ecosystems of the Western Carpathian Mts. and Polonic biogeographical subprovincy during 1997–2001 in the Czech Republic. Vegetation tiers (= altitudinal vegetation zones) were used as a study frame. Only a part of material, i.e. individuals that was found in the forest ecosystems of Querci-fageta s. lat. communities (= the 3rd oak-beech vegetation tier) was evaluated for purpose of this work. This vegetation tier is widespread in large part of the Opavská pahorkatina hills, in large parts of Podbeskydská pahorktina hills, in the Bílé Karpaty hills and in the foothills of the Vsetínské vrchy hills. 1201 adults comprising 29 species were found in total in the 3rd vegetation tier. As eudominant species, the following ones were found: Peripsocus subfasciatus, Caecilius fl avius and Stenopsocus lachlani, as dominant species, the following ones were found: Philotarsus parviceps and Caecilius piceus. In natural geobiocenoses with the level of naturalness of 1 or 2, the following species were found: as eudominant species: Caecilius fl avidus, Peripsocus phaeopterus, as dominant species, the following ones were found: Caecilius piceus, Peripsocus subfasciatus, Philotarsus parviceps and Elipsocus moebiusi. -

Mazáč Department of Forest Protection and Wildlife Management, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Mendel University in Brno, Brno, Czech Republic ABSTRACT: Taxocenosis of psocids (Psocoptera) was studied in the territory of the Drahanská vrchovina Hills in the Czech Republic. Representative research plots were selected in forest ecosystems with natural species composition and spatial structure (small-scale strictly protected areas) as well as in forest ecosystems with altered tree species composi- tion and spatial structure. Research was conducted in three altitudinal vegetation zones (AVZ): in 2nd communities of Fagi-querceta s. lat. (beech-oak forests), 3rd Querci-fageta s. lat. (oak-beech forests) and 4th Fageta abietis (beech forests with fir). Research plots are situated at altitudes ranging between 275 and 540 m a.s.l. In the 2013 growing season, totally 3,474 imagoes and 2,532 nymphs of 32 psocid species were collected. Of those, 748 imagoes of 25 psocid species were collected in Fagi-querceta. The occurrence of Caecilius burmeisteri, Caecilius flavidus and Graphopsocus cruciatus was eudominant. 2,194 imagoes of 23 psocid species were found in Querci-fageta, eudominant were there Caecilius flavidus and Caecilius burmeisteri. 532 imagoes of 18 psocid species were found in Fageta abietis, eudominant were there: Caecilius flavidus, Peripsocus subfasciatus and Caecilius burmeisteri. In respect to the species composition, 3rd AVZ and 4th AVZ are similar to each other while 2nd AVZ is less similar. -

For ease of use a synthesis of the first ten supplements was published as Special Issue 3 of Psocid News (Lienhard, 2016d). Pešić: 27 September 2017 │ Published online: 29 September 2017. The insects from the order Psocoptera are poorly studied in Bulgaria (Lienhard & Smithers 2002). In this note I report of nineteen species of Psocoptera which were little known or were not recorded in this country. The study was carried out between 22.9.2016 and 27.8.2017 from seven geographic regions of Bulgaria (Fig. 1): Upper Thracian Lowland, Black Sea Coast, and the mountains of Sakar, Strandzha, Rhodopes, Pirin and Sarnena Gora. All specimens were collected and identified by the author. The barklice were searched by following methods: 1. Actively searched under tree bark and collected by hand; 2. Sieving with 1 mm mesh width sieve of detritus or crushed tree bark particles above white cloth; 3. Beating the vegetation above a sieve; 4. Checking for dead individuals in paddles, beneath windows and in spider webs; 5. Sweep netting of vegetation. Specimens were then over narcotized by diethyl ether, stored in ethanol or glycerin (when prepared on microscope slides), and after processing deposited in the collection of the author. Bob Saville (National Barkfly Recording Scheme organiser, Edinburgh) In the acknowledgments section of the second edition of Tim New’s British Psocoptera handbook [New, T. 2005. Psocids Psocoptera (Booklice and barklice). Handbooks for the identification of British Insects 1(7), 146pp Royal Entomological Society] Tim notes his disappointment that so few people have adopted Psocoptera for study in Britain in recent years. This was a problem that I was well aware of (and is, of course, also the case for most insect groups) but seeing it in black and white inspired me to seriously try to think of a solution. But what to do?! A good number of years ago, when I was involved with the Scottish Wildlife Trust, I was asked to come up with an idea for a faunal project for trainee surveyors. I suggested a seasonal study of the psocids found on four yew trees at an estate near Edinburgh. The trainees had no experience of Psocoptera (or indeed any insects at all) and I was somewhat surprised but encouraged to see how quickly some of them developed an interest in the group. The project was so successful that it was run for four consecutive years. A good part of the reason for its success was because the information they needed to carry out the project was readily at hand. For example, the ability to easily identify species provided by Tim’s handbook was a major help - if keys in foreign languages or scattered papers had been the only resource then the project would undoubtedly never have happened. -

I recently joined the psocid community after completing a master's degree in botany at the University of Missouri - St. Louis. Insects are much more interesting than plants, so I was happy to begin working on psocids in 2005 when I started my doctoral thesis at the University of Illinois under the advisement of Dr. Kevin Johnson. My thesis project focuses on the radiation of Ptycta (Psocidae) on the Hawaiian Islands, where there are more than 50 described species. I am investigating the diversity, morphological and molecular phylogenetics, and biogeographic history of the group in order to describe the origin and timing of colonization. Dr. Edward Mockford has taught me a great deal about the morphology and natural history of psocids, both here in Illinois and during a collecting trip in Hawaii in January of 2007.
