Entering her fifth season as part of the Maverick coaching staff, Mandy Brettingen will continue her duties as the Mavericks’ associate head coach. As an assistant coach during her first three seasons, Brettingen coordinated the program’s recruiting efforts and worked extensively with the field players. When she was appointed to Minnesota State’s staff in the fall of 2003, Brettingen brought with her a wealth of playing and coaching experience. A native of Eagan, Minn., Brettingen graduated from in 1994 after earning all-conference recognition in both soccer and . She began her collegiate playing career at NCAA Division I Loyola University in Chicago, Ill. After being named the Ramblers’ Rookie of the Year in 1994, she transferred to Macalester College where she was honored with both All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and all-region accolades in 1996 and 1997. In 1999, Brettingen pulled double duty, serving as an assistant coach at both her alma maters: Eagan High School and Macalester. After earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1999, she assumed the role of interim head coach at the University of Utah in the fall of 1999 before settling into the position of assistant coach. Under her direction, the Utes captured the Mountain West Conference championship in 2001 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division I Soccer Championships in 2002. Associate Head Coach As a club coach, Brettingen has guided squads across the country, specifically guiding a team to a gold medal at the Utah-Moscow Summer Games in Moscow, Russia. Representatives of colleges and universities in North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota met in the late fall of 1921 North Central Conference in Chicago to consider the formation of Ramkota Inn what was to become the North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, 2400 North Louise now commonly known at the North Central Conference or NCC. There were representatives from nine institutions at the meeting: North Dakota Sioux Falls, S.D. 57107 Agricultural College (now NDSU), the University of North Dakota, State University Phone: (605) 338-0907 of South Dakota, South Dakota State College, Morningside College, Des Moines Municipal University, Nebraska Wesleyan, College of St. Thomas and Creighton Fax: (605) 338-1889 University. www.northcentralconference.org Shortly after the conference began, it met with some rough going with four members withdrawing. Des Moines Municipal went first, dropping out after the 1926 season. Nebraska Wesleyan severed relationships after the season of 1927. In NCC Staff 1928, St. Thomas and Creighton also became casualties. It was not until 1935 that Named the sixth commissioner of the North Omaha University was allowed to join the league. In 1936, Iowa State Teachers’ Central Conference in January of 2005, Roger College (now Northern Iowa) was admitted, and in 1941, Augustana College of Thomas ([email protected]) is Sioux Falls was allowed to become a member. Omaha withdrew in 1943, leaving in his first year guiding the league. Thomas was the NCC membership intact until 1968: Morningside, Northern Iowa, North Dakota Director of Athletics at the University of North State, North Dakota, Augustana, South Dakota and South Dakota State. Dakota from 1999-2005 and currently serves on the NCAA Division II Management Council. At the fall meeting in 1968, Minnesota State University, Mankato (known Thomas served as the UND’s head football coach then as Mankato State College) was admitted into the league. The University of for 13 seasons, leaving with more wins than Nebraska-Omaha (formerly Omaha University) was readmitted in the spring of any other UND coach and a record of 90-49-2. 1976. Minnesota State dropped out in the spring of 1977, and Northern Iowa left in Thomas was a runningback and quarterback at Augustana College the spring of 1978. The University of Northern Colorado became the eighth member (Ill.), earning a bachelor’s degree in physical education and history in 1969.
