Besides the close-to-nature cultural landscape that has been formed and infl uenced by man over thou- sands of years, the railway also runs through intact natural landscapes. It was even the scene of a pioneer achievement in the conservation of endangered species with the re-introduction of the ibex – enthusiastically supported by the Rhaetian Railway. The Albula/Bernina line of the Rhaetian Rail- a limit that is only rarely exceeded in the Alps.
