Results Framework Analysis Project Development Objectives (from Project Appraisal Document) The Project Development Objective as written in the Results Framework is to facilitate private sector involvement in port operations through the improvement of physical facilities and better navigation safety. In the main body of the Project Appraisal Document (PAD), the project's objective is written in the context of a two-phased (and two-project) program which supports Poland's Port Sector Modernization Program as described in 1995. The objective of the program was to promote Poland's trade by developing an efficient administrative/managerial structure and improving physical facilities in the main ports of Gdansk, Gdynia, and Szczecin-Swinoujscie. ii Revised Project Development Objectives (as approved by original approving authority) NA (a) PDO Indicator(s) Original Target Formally Actual Value Values (from Revised Achieved at Indicator Baseline Value approval Target Completion or documents) Values Target Years Indicator 1 : Total traffic cargo in the port of Szczecin Value PAD projection Total traffic cargo 12.87 tons (PAD Annex quantitative or for 2007, 16.5 in 2008 16.9 4) Qualitative) million tons million tons Date achieved 11/11/2000 06/30/2004 06/30/2008 Comments New berth facility on Grabowski Island is not yet operational. • Communes of Less Favoured Areas in Landscape Parks of West Pomeranian Voivodeship
Acta Sci. Pol., Agricultura 11(1) 2012, 5-11 COMMUNES OF LESS FAVOURED AREAS IN LANDSCAPE PARKS OF WEST POMERANIAN VOIVODESHIP Stanisáaw Dzienia, Stanisáaw PuĪyĔski, Eleonora WrzesiĔska West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin1 Abstract. Functional classification of communes with less favoured areas in landscape parks in West Pomeranian Voivodeship has shown that among 10 analyzed features the biggest differences between communes were in livestock unit per 100 ha of agricultural land, density of population, proportion of non-agricultural farms in the total number of farms, as well as proportion of agricultural land and forests in the total area. Moreover, among three groups of communes, the best conditions for agricultural production were in group C which included Barwice, Dobrzany, Poáczyn-Zdrój and WĊgorzyno. In the rest of the studied communes, group A and B, rural tourism, agrotourism and other non- -agricultural activities are preferable. Key words: functional classification, landscape parks, less favoured areas, multifunctional development of rural areas INTRODUCTION In Poland less favoured areas (LFAs) constitute 57.9% of the area of agricultural land and cover 46.4% farms [NiewĊgáowska 2009]. Among LFAs in Poland the following categories have been distinguished: mountainous areas, whose area constitutes 1.2% of the country’s area, areas with specific impediments (foothill areas) – 3.0% of agricultural land, and lowland areas, which constitute up to 52.8% of agricultural land [Statistical Yearbook… 2008]. Most of the LFA agricultural land is situated in the area of Podlaskie Voivodeship (97.6%) and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (83.2%), and the least in Opole Voivodeship (23.6) and Lublin Voivodeship (43.6%).

Connecting Science and Business www.max-planck-innovation.de ON LOCATION Photo: Valérie Schwab-Lavriˇc At the End of the World Dusty, windy, desolate – “an end one would rather not see” is how Argentinian author Mempo Giardinelli describes the Patagonian mesetas. Yet Gerd Gleixner and his colleagues from the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry specifically chose the region for one of their research expeditions: its enormous, grassy, high plateaus of volcanic origin offer conditions that are hard to find anywhere else in the world. The steep slopes of the Andes mean that the clouds arriving on westerly winds from the Pacific release their rain on the Chilean side of the mountain range. But the clouds carried over from the east also pass over the flat plateaus, the only significant rainfall in the region occurs near the mountains. These exceptional geographical circumstances of the mesetas make it possible to take soil and sediment samples over thousands of miles along a north-south route that always has identical precipitation conditions, thus affording a unique opportunity to investigate the effect of temperature on the soil’s carbon exchange rate isolated from the influence of rainfall.

The effect of pulverising aeration on changes in the oxygen and nitrogen concentrations in water of Lake Starzyc. Journal of Water and Land Development. No. 25 p. 31–36 Abstract Due to poor ecological status of Lake Starzyc, lake restoration measures were undertaken in 2003 to im- prove aerobic conditions of near-bottom waters and to decrease phosphorus concentrations. To do this, a wind- driven pulverising aerator was installed in the lake. The aim of this study was to analyse variability of oxygen and nitrogen concentrations in lake water near the aerator in the third year of its operation and later on in the three-year-long period of the years 2008–2010.
