Landform Analysis, Vol. 27: 45–54, 2014 doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.12657/landfana.027.004 Conditions and rate of extreme dunes abrasion at the Pomeranian Bay Jacek Tylkowski Institute of Geoecology and Geoinformation, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, e-mail: [email protected] Abstract: This paper presents the temporal and spatial variability of the abrasion dynamics of the dunes located on the coast of the Southern Baltic Sea within the Polish section of the Pomeranian Bay between 1986 and 2008. The study presents long-term tendencies and daily dynamics of coastal dunes abrasion, being the consequence of intensive storm surges. Systematic, quantitative measurements of the abrasion of dunes were performed by the Maritime Offices in Szczecin, Słupsk and Gdynia within the sections of the dune coast most severely affected by abrasion. To determine the origin of the abrasion of dunes, the key hydro-meteorological conditions that determine the geomorphological changes of coastal sea areas, such as types of atmospheric circulation and the maximal sea levels during storm surges, were reviewed. The study also shows the maximal sea level thresholds that can determine the potential dynamics of coastal dunes abrasion at the Pomeranian Bay. Communes of Less Favoured Areas in Landscape Parks of West Pomeranian Voivodeship

Functional classification of communes with less favoured areas in landscape parks in West Pomeranian Voivodeship has shown that among 10 analyzed features the biggest differences between communes were in livestock unit per 100 ha of agricultural land, density of population, proportion of non-agricultural farms in the total number of farms, as well as proportion of agricultural land and forests in the total area. Moreover, among three groups of communes, the best conditions for agricultural production were in group C which included Barwice, Dobrzany, Poáczyn-Zdrój and WĊgorzyno. In the rest of the studied communes, group A and B, rural tourism, agrotourism and other non- -agricultural activities are preferable. Key words: functional classification, landscape parks, less favoured areas, multifunctional development of rural areas INTRODUCTION In Poland less favoured areas (LFAs) constitute 57.9% of the area of agricultural land and cover 46.4% farms [NiewĊgáowska 2009]. Among LFAs in Poland the following categories have been distinguished: mountainous areas, whose area constitutes 1.2% of the country’s area, areas with specific impediments (foothill areas) – 3.0% of agricultural land, and lowland areas, which constitute up to 52.8% of agricultural land [Statistical Yearbook… 2008]. Most of the LFA agricultural land is situated in the area of Podlaskie Voivodeship (97.6%) and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship (83.2%), and the least in Opole Voivodeship (23.6) and Lublin Voivodeship (43.6%). -

Piastow 42, 71-065 Szczecin, Poland Received: 10 October 2014 Accepted: 29 December 2014 Abstract We show how to determine polybrominated diphenyl ethers in aqueous samples using liquid-liquid extraction and gas chromatography with electron capture detection (LLE-GC-μECD). This method, due to its simplicity, low limits of determination (7-9 pg/L), high accuracy, relatively low costs, and high recovery coef- ficients for all of these PBDEs (86-92%), offers enormous benefits for routine analyses of PBDEs. The devel- oped method was applied to surface water samples collected from different sampling points in western Pomerania. The spatial scope of the research covered the communes of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in 2018. The data used in the research came from public statistics sources with the level of detail of NTS-5 (GUS, BDL, BIP). The work uses specialist literature on the subject, both domestic and foreign. The research used the taxonomic measure of development by Z. Hellwig, which replaces the description of the studied objects with the use of many variables with the description using one aggregate quantity.
