Beijing is such a metropolis and in its urban peripheral, an increasing number of communities have emerged that are comprised of monotonous housing projects. However, after the basic residential living requirements are satisfied, many other problems (including lack of amenities, distance between home and workplace which is particularly concerned with long commute time, traffic congestion, and etc.) exist.

  • Shanghai, China Overview Introduction
Shanghai, China Overview Introduction The name Shanghai still conjures images of romance, mystery and adventure, but for decades it was an austere backwater. After the success of Mao Zedong's communist revolution in 1949, the authorities clamped down hard on Shanghai, castigating China's second city for its prewar status as a playground of gangsters and colonial adventurers. And so it was. In its heyday, the 1920s and '30s, cosmopolitan Shanghai was a dynamic melting pot for people, ideas and money from all over the planet. Business boomed, fortunes were made, and everything seemed possible. It was a time of breakneck industrial progress, swaggering confidence and smoky jazz venues. Thanks to economic reforms implemented in the 1980s by Deng Xiaoping, Shanghai's commercial potential has reemerged and is flourishing again. Stand today on the historic Bund and look across the Huangpu River. The soaring 1,614-ft/492-m Shanghai World Financial Center tower looms over the ambitious skyline of the Pudong financial district. Alongside it are other key landmarks: the glittering, 88- story Jinmao Building; the rocket-shaped Oriental Pearl TV Tower; and the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The 128-story Shanghai Tower is the tallest building in China (and, after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the second-tallest in the world). Glass-and-steel skyscrapers reach for the clouds, Mercedes sedans cruise the neon-lit streets, luxury- brand boutiques stock all the stylish trappings available in New York, and the restaurant, bar and clubbing scene pulsates with an energy all its own. Perhaps more than any other city in Asia, Shanghai has the confidence and sheer determination to forge a glittering future as one of the world's most important commercial centers.

Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research, volume 291 International Conference on Management, Economics, Education, Arts and Humanities (MEEAH 2018) Analysis and Evaluation of the Beijing Metro Project Financing Reforms Haibin Zhao1,a, Bingjie Ren2,b, Ting Wang3,c 1Ministry of Transport Research Institute, Chaoyang, Beijing, China,100029; 2Beijing Urban Construction Design & Development Group Co., Limited, Xicheng, Beijing, China,100037; 3School of Civil Engineering, Beijing Jiaotong University, Haidian, Beijing, China, 100044. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Keywords: metro; financing; marketisation; reform Abstract. The construction and operation of a metro system are costly, and the sustainable development of a metro system is difficult using government funding alone, particularly for developing countries. The main source for metro system financing in China is, currently, government budget and bank debt. Many cities have begun to seek new ways to attract funds from finance markets, which is increasing the need for the evaluation of metro financing. This study uses Beijing as a case study that utilises various financing modes with impressive results. As participants of the financing reform, the authors collected all the relative government documents and interviewed stakeholders to accomplish this work. This article reviews the development of financing modes for the Beijing Metro system during the last four decades and analyses the role of the government in the reformed financing system within the Chinese social political environment. The study addresses the advantages and challenges of the reforms in this context. To further analyses the technical processes of typical financing modes, the public-private partnership mode of Line 4, the BT mode of Olympic Branch Line, the insurance claim mode of Line 10 and the failure of the market oriented financing for Capital Airport Line are analysed and evaluated in detail.

The current issue and full text archive of this journal is available on Emerald Insight at: https://www.emerald.com/insight/2632-0487.htm SRT fl 3,1 Research on digital ow control model of urban rail transit under the situation of epidemic 78 prevention and control Received 30 September 2020 Qi Sun, Fang Sun and Cai Liang Revised 26 October 2020 Accepted 26 October 2020 Beijing Rail Transit Road Network, Beijing, China, and Chao Yu and Yamin Zhang Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China Abstract Purpose – Beijing rail transit can actively control the density of rail transit passenger flow, ensure travel facilities and provide a safe and comfortable riding atmosphere for rail transit passengers during the epidemic. The purpose of this paper is to efficiently monitor the flow of rail passengers, the first method is to regulate the flow of passengers by means of a coordinated connection between the stations of the railway line; the second method is to objectively distribute the inbound traffic quotas between stations to achieve the aim of accurate and reasonable control according to the actual number of people entering the station. Design/methodology/approach – This paper analyzes the rules of rail transit passenger flow and updates the passenger flow prediction model in time according to the characteristics of passenger flow during the epidemic to solve the above-mentioned problems. Big data system analysis restores and refines the time and space distribution of the finely expected passenger flow and the train service plan of each route. Get information on the passenger travel chain from arriving, boarding, transferring, getting off and leaving, as well as the full load rate of each train.

  • Bombardier Manufactures a Variety of Standalone Transit Systems, Including the INNOVIA Monorail, the INNOVIA APM, and the MOVIA Light Metro
Response to City of San Jose RFI 2019-DOT-PPD-4 New Transit Options: Airport-Diridon-Stevens Creek Transit Connection Bombardier manufactures a variety of standalone transit systems, including the INNOVIA Monorail, the INNOVIA APM, and the MOVIA Light Metro. All these systems, or a combination of these systems, could be an excellent basis for the Airport - Diridon - Steven's Creek corridor project(s). Of the three technologies, the INNOVIA Monorail appears to best address the objectives of the proposed project in that it is less expensive to construct, can be constructed more rapidly, and operates in a grade-separated, high capacity system. Ultimately the choice of technology depends on a variety of factors, most notably the planned ridership per hour, which are not available at present. As such, Bombardier has submitted information on all three technologies, and looks forward to the opportunity to discuss the best fit solution with the City of San Jose at their convenience. Bombardier anticipates that this project could be delivered as a Design-Build-Operate Maintain Finance (DBFOM) Public Private Partnership (PPP). Infrastructures of Critique: Art and Visual Culture in Contemporary Beijing (1978-2012) by Elizabeth Chamberlin Parke A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of East Asian Studies University of Toronto © Copyright by Elizabeth Chamberlin Parke 2016 Infrastructures of Critique: Art and Visual Culture in Contemporary Beijing (1978-2012) Elizabeth Chamberlin Parke Doctor of Philosophy Department of East Asian Studies University of Toronto 2016 Abstract This dissertation is a story about relationships between artists, their work, and the physical infrastructure of Beijing. I argue that infrastructure’s utilitarianism has relegated it to a category of nothing to see, and that this tautology effectively shrouds other possible interpretations. My findings establish counter-narratives and critiques of Beijing, a city at once an immerging global capital city, and an urban space fraught with competing ways of seeing, those crafted by the state and those of artists. Statecraft in this dissertation is conceptualized as both the art of managing building projects that function to control Beijing’s public spaces, harnessing the thing-power of infrastructure, and the enforcement of everyday rituals that surround Beijinger’s interactions with the city’s infrastructure. From the spectacular architecture built to signify China’s neoliberal approaches to globalized urban spaces, to micro-modifications in how citizens sort their recycling depicted on neighborhood bulletin boards, the visuals of Chinese statecraft saturate the urban landscape of Beijing. I advocate for heterogeneous ways of seeing of infrastructure that releases its from being solely a function of statecraft, to a constitutive part of the artistic practices of: Song Dong (宋冬 b.
