Guitarist Peter White Releases ‘Music for STARLUX Airlines’ White releases album ahead of STARLUX Airlines launch

DECEMBER 5, 2019 - Although he has never had a guitar lesson in his life, Peter White has become known as one of the jazz industry’s greatest icons. For over forty years, he has worked with many music greats, recorded eighteen solo and collaboration albums, performed before countless audiences, and most recently, created a special collection of songs for STARLUX Airlines.

STARLUX Airlines is a new, luxury airline based in Taiwan. Official flights will begin in January 2020 with plans to expand to North America by 2024. The airline’s attention to detail has created great excitement in the airline community and public: cabins designed by BMW’s Designworks Studio, an impressive in-flight entertainment system, elegant uniforms, free wi-fi for all, an exclusive fragrance, a highly entertaining safety video, and the very music created by White.

As a departure from the traditional airline, on-board music style, STARLUX asked that White bring in his special sound for their airline. Founder and CEO Kuo-Wei Chang grew fond of White’s music while studying in the United States and would listen to it while driving. It was his idea to have the guitarist create music for the airline to immerse passengers in a relaxed and happy atmosphere as soon as they board and to enhance their comfort while flying.

White’s career began when he was invited to play keyboards for folk-rock singer in the 1970s. His first studio experience was at Abbey Roads Studio recording Stewart’s ‘Year of the Cat’ album with producer Alan Parsons. By this time, White had taught himself to play numerous instruments; and soon, his particular sound began to blossom with more emphasis on the acoustic guitar. Including influences as diverse as The Beatles, Eric Clapton, ELP and AC/DC, White’s lyrical style of instrumental music is unique and distinguishable, and he has carved out a niche of his own in the smooth jazz realm.

According to White, the songs were all created with the themes of adventure, escape and travel in mind. Also instead of the standard 3-5 minute length of typical songs, the airline wanted songs that were over 7 minutes long, which posed a new challenge - how to make a song interesting and easy to listen to, yet complex enough from beginning to end to hold a listener’s attention. White achieved this by adding piano, synthesizer, accordion, harmonica and marimbas for additional variety and depth, all played by him. The new album contains six songs, each telling a different story; and together they comprise a complete auditory journey.

The new album, entitled ‘Music for STARLUX Airlines’, is now available through Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Tidal and others.
