The author, Professor Abdul Azim Islahi, is a well-known specialist in the history of Islamic economic thought. In this respect, we have already published his following works: Contributions of Muslim Scholars to th Economic Thought and Analysis up to the 15 Century; Muslim th Economic Thinking and Institutions in the 16 Century, and A Study on th Muslim Economic Thinking in the 17 Century. The present work and the previous series have filled, to an extent, the gap currently existing in the study of the history of Islamic economic thought. In this study, Dr. Islahi has explored the economic ideas of Shehu Uthman dan Fodio of West Africa, a region generally neglected by researchers. He has also investigated the economic ideas of Shaykh Muhammad b. Abd al-Wahhab, who is commonly known as a religious renovator. Perhaps it would be a revelation for many to know that his economic ideas too had a role in his reformative endeavours. -

For National Open University of Nigeria 4 Module One: Unit 1: The Concept of Tajdīd and its Development 1.0 Introduction There is a strong tradition of revival and reform in Islam. The concept of Tajdid (renewal/revival) is a fundamental concept within Islam, based on the Qur'an and Sunnah of the Prophet. The preaching of Islam itself is presented in the Qur'an as the revival of the true religion of God and reform of corrupt practices that had crept into the practices of religion by earlier peoples. Islam regards itself as both the corroboration and the purification of the original faith as held by prophet Ibrahim, father of monotheism. Thus, Islam is not a new religion but a re-affirmation and renewal of the ancient Ibrahimic belief. -

Chapter on Not Raising the Hands in other than the Opening & the Command to be Still in Salah ‘Allamah Zafar Ahmad al-‘Uthmani Translated by Zameelur Rahman 1. Narrated from Tamim ibn Tarafah from Jabir ibn Samurah (Allah be pleased with him): He said: Allah‟s Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) came out to us and said: “Why do I see you raising your hands like they are the tails of wild horses? Be still in Salah!” Muslim narrated it (1:181). I say: The evidence adhered to in this hadith is his (Allah bless him and grant him peace) statement, “Be still in Salah,” as it proves the obligation of stillness and that raising the hands in Salah negates this [stillness]. If it is said that his (Allah bless him and grant him peace) statement, “Why do I see you raising your hands like they are the tails of wild horses?” was said specifically with respect to raising [the hands] upon salam as clarified in a second hadith, which is Muslim’s narration from ‘Ubayd Allah ibn al-Qibtiyyah from Jabir ibn Samurah, he said: “We would, when praying with Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him), say ‘al-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmat Allah, al-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmat Allah,’” and he gestured with his hands to the side, “so Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: ‘Why do you gesture with your hands like they are the tails of wild horses?’” We say: Apparently the hadith of Tamim ibn Tarafah and the hadith of ‘Ubayd Allah ibn al- Qibtiyyah are two separate incidents because it is not said to the one raising the hand during salam, “Be still in (fi) Salah,” since by this act [i.e. -

ABSTRACT This thesis is an in-depth study into two of the UK charity iERA's da'wah narratives: the Qura'nic embryology 'miracle' and the Kalam Cosmological Argument. While the embryo verses have received scholarly attention, there is little to no research in the da'wah context for both narratives. Berger and Luckmann's social constructionism was applied to both, which were problematic. It was found that iERA constructed its exegesis of the embryo verses by expanding on classical meanings to show harmony with modern science. Additionally, it developed the Cosmological Argument by adapting it to Salafi Islamic beliefs. The construction processes were found to be influenced by an online dialectic between iERA and its Muslim and atheist detractors, causing it to abandon the scientific miracles and modify the Cosmological Argument. -

The Principles of hadith IN light of tradition and orientalism by Abdul Aleem www.TheRopeOfAllah.com Part One: Usul ul-Hadith www.TheRopeOfAllah.com Introduction to Usul ul-Hadith The word ‘hadith’ in its literal sense is a reference to a piece of news, narration, or report. When used as an adjective, it means ‘new’. In this regard, the Qur’an uses the word ‘hadith’ in the meanings of a meaningful conversation (Surah At- Tahrim, ayah 3), non-meaningful conversation (Surah Al-An’am, ayah 68), a historical narrative (Surah Taha, ayah 9), and even the Qur’an itself (Surah Al- Qalam, ayah 44). The Prophet (SAW) himself also used the term in a variety of meanings. However, as the conversations, narrations or ‘ahadith’ in the early period of Islam were dominated by the words of the Prophet (SAW), the term began to be used almost exclusively for actions and sayings, in order to form the Sunnah. Further to this, the word khabar is also used synonymously to ‘hadith’ by the hadith scholars – even though it also means ‘news’. Thus, every hadith is a khabar, but not every khabar is a hadith. Similarly, the word athar (meaning ‘footsteps’) can also refer to either the narrations of the Prophet (SAW) - as used by Tabari and Tahawi, or the companions (RA). But in order to avoid any confusion, this term is now generally used to refer only to the practice and sayings of the Sahaabah (RA). FOR PROMOTING 24 PEACE #ICS2018 #FutureOfFaith 3 The Future of Faith: Religious Values in a Plural World INTRODUCTION In light of challenges facing the role of religion in the modern world, from time to time leaders from various faiths have come together to provide a united front and initiate calls for action with the aim of underlining the positive pathways that religion can contribute in addressing the global challenges today. Previous major initiatives include A Common Word (2012) which is endorsed by hundreds of Muslim and Christian thinkers and scholars who propose common ground initiatives for all humanity; the Chechnya Conference (2016) that concentrated on intra- faith issues and the identity of mainstream moderate Islam; the Marrakesh Conference (2016) led by H.E. Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah, proposed a legal framework for inclusive treatment of minorities; and the Fez Plan of Action (2017) which focused on the role of religious leadership in counter-radicalization efforts. In partnership with the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies led by eminent Muslim scholar Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah, the Islamic Council of Singapore (MUIS) intends to complement these global initiatives which were rolled out in pursuit of a progressive and pro-active religious identity in the context of the rapidly changing and diverse world we live in now. The conference aims to contribute a significant voice for continued inter-religious cooperation in harnessing the positive role of religion as well as celebrate the milestones of the Singapore Muslim community as part of MUIS’s 50th Anniversary.
