Middle Miocene (Badenian) gastropods from Korytnica, Poland; Part IV – Turridae. Acta Geologica Polonica, 53 (1), 29-78. Warszawa. This report is the fourth part of the monograph of the surprisingly rich assemblage of gastropods occurring in the so- called Pleurotoma Clays of Middle Miocene (Badenian) age, exposed in the environs of Korytnica in the Holy Cross Mountains, Central Poland. It contains characteristics of 101 prosobranch species of one family, the Turridae. Within this assemblage, five species are new for the science (including one, formerly reported from Korytnica, but deter- mined erroneously); of the recognized species as many as 72 have not hitherto been reported from Korytnica, and 66 from the Miocene of Poland. As the new species established are: Clavatula kowalewskii sp.nov., Perrona (Perrona) czarnockii sp.nov., Turricula (Surcula) korytnicensis sp.nov., Cythara (Mangelia) cibori sp.nov., and Bela sanctacrucen- sis sp.nov. Speci- mens found on the branches of red coral colonies located off Capo Caccia (Alghero – SS, West Sardinia, Mediterranean Sea) were studied by analyzing red coral branches collected at a depth of between 100 and 120 m; their assemblage was made up of 44 species, all belonging to the classes Gastropoda and Bivalvia. Some data on the geographical distribution, ecology, taxonomy and dominance of these species, both alive and dead, are given and the most interesting are commented on. Among the recorded species Triv- ia multilirata, Simnia purpurea, Coralliophila brevis, Ocinebrina paddeui, Pleurotomella demosia, Palli- olum striatum and Pseudamussium sulcatum deserve attention. -

New Marine Gastropod Records for the Hellenic Waters

This study contributes to the knowledge of the Hellenic marine gastropod biodiversity, expanding data over the entire Greek territory, during the period from Octo‑ ber 2008 to March 2017. Results: This work presents 45 species of gastropods not previously reported from Greece or reported only once, belonging to 19 families. From those species, one (Horologica sp.) is, most probably, an undescribed species, 17 are new for the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and 40 are new for the Hellenic fauna. Main taxonomic characteristics and ecological information such as habitat, distribution and origin, are given and discussed. Conclusions: By this report, the Hellenic gastropod biodiversity is enriched by 40 new records, out of which, 17 are new for the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, 4 are Lessepsian migrants previously reported for the Mediterranean Sea and 1 is probably a new species. E-mail: [email protected] Summary: An exceptional species richness for Mollusca was found on Avempace bank (349-365 m), Djibouti group, Albo- ran Sea, where the most abundant species was the crinoid Leptometra phalangium. A sample of sediment sieved on a 0.5- mm mesh yielded 156 species of molluscs (83 live-taken, 1772 specimens) with a high Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’(log2)=3.60). The dominant mollusc was Limopsis aurita and the six most common species accounted for 77% of the specimens. On the other hand, 42 species were represented by only one or two specimens. Two species are described as new, three more are first findings in the Mediterranean and two are first findings in Iberian waters. One-third of the species have not been reported from the neighbouring, well-explored Alboran Island platform. -

Resumen ejecutivo El Seco de los Olivos, también conocido como banco de Chella, es una elevación submarina localizada a unas 10 millas de la costa de Almería, entre 70 y 700 metros de profundidad. Ocupa una extensión de 100 km2. La influencia de aguas procedentes del Atlántico y del Mediterráneo, así como los afloramientos de aguas profundas ricas en nutrientes facilita la presencia de una elevada biodiversidad en la zona (de la Torriente et al., 2014). Se presenta el catálogo actualizado de las especies bentónicas y demersales citadas en las aguas del Seco de los Olivos (incluido en el LIC-ESZZ16003), basado en una revisión bibliográfica y en los hallazgos provenientes de diferentes campañas oceanográficas a bordo del catamarán Oceana Ranger , del B/O Angeles Alvariño y del B/O Miguel Oliver desde 2010 a 2017 (Proyectos INDEMARES, ATLAS, MEDITS y MONCARAL), basados fundamentalmente en la observación y documentación fotográfica de la zona y las especies que la habitan, mediante un vehículo operado por control remoto (ROV), como de la toma de muestras mediante diferentes métodos.
