JAMES M.Phil Scholar CMS College Coimbatore Abstract The child development is expandable and its potential may differ with the environment. Every child is different and hence, special. The distribution curve shows that most of the children who undergo dyslexia seem to be average in many traits. Few children deviate from the generally accepted norms in many ways. These deviations may give rise to multi factorial problems of adjustments at home, school and social setting and thus, leads to addition of problems in divergence. Deviation can be in terms of physical, social, emotional and mental characteristics. In the film Taare Zameen Par, the director Aamir Khan tried to disclose the present scenario of education. The director enhances his vision and mission through the film and he teaches about unconventional Montessori teaching. Teaching should not force the student to conform to the existing pattern of the world. The students should be equipped to think out of the box and define their own goals instead of fitting their ideas with the prevailing ones. Curricula and assessment should be flexible and encourage critical thinking on the part of the students so that they become compassionate and sensitive human beings. The Hindu, the Muslim, and the Border In
THE HINDU, THE MUSLIM, AND THE BORDER IN NATIONALIST SOUTH ASIAN CINEMA Vinay Lal University of California, Los Angeles Abstract There is but no question that we can speak about the emergence of the (usually Pakistani or Muslim) ‘terrorist’ figure in many Bollywood films, and likewise there is the indisputable fact of the rise of Hindu nationalism in the political and public sphere. Indian cinema, however, may also be viewed in the backdrop of political developments in Pakistan, where the project of Islamicization can be dated to least the late 1970s and where the turn to a Wahhabi-inspired version of Islam is unmistakable. I argue that the recent history of Pa- kistan must be seen as instigated by a disavowal of the country’s Indic self, and similarly I suggest that scholarly and popular studies of the ‘representation’ of the Muslim in “Bol- lywood” rather too easily assume that such a figure is always the product of caricature and stereotyping. But the border between Pakistan and India, between the self and the other, and the Hindu and the Muslim is rather more porous than we have imagined, and I close with hints at what it means to both retain and subvert the border. The change in kinship arrangements, and particularly in intermarriage processes, is traced by analysing the reception of Hindi popular cinema. Films and their role and meaning in people´s lives in India was the object of my research. Films also provided me with a methodology for approaching my other subject-matters: family, marriage and love. Through my discussion of cultural change, the persistence of family as a core value and locus of identity, and the movie discourses depicting this dialogue, I have looked for a possibility of compromise and reconciliation in an Indian context. As the primary form of Indian public culture, cinema has the ability to take part in discourses about Indian identity and cultural change, and alleviate the conflicts that emerge within these discourses. Hindi popular films do this, I argue, by incorporating different familiar cultural narratives in a resourceful way, thus creating something new out of the old elements. -

TOPIK UTAMA DISSECT MESSAGES IN TAARE ZAMEEN PAR: A CRITICS TO APPLICATION OF BEHAVIORISTIC APPROACH IN LEARNING PROCESS Adita Widya Pangestika Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Universitas Jenderal Soedirman [email protected] ABSTRAK Film adalah media yang efektif untuk kritik sosial. Melalui elemen audio visual film dapat menampilkan berbagai potret fenomena sosial yang ada di tengah-tengah masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi berbagai tanda dalam adegan film yang merupakan representasi dari kritik sosial, khususnya di bidang pendidikan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah semiotik yang dikembangkan oleh John Fiske. Adegan-adegan yang dianggap mengandung kritik sosial diuraikan pada 9 kode televisi. Setelah itu tanda tersebut akan dianalisis dalam tiga level, level realitas, representasi, dan ideologi. Studi ini menemukan bahwa film "Taare Zameen Par" berisi kritik terhadap pendekatan behavioris dalam sistem pendidikan. Upaya mengkritik pendekatan behavioris dilakukan dengan menghasilkan pendekatan humanistik sebagai pembanding. Sosok utama yang memiliki masalah disleksia hampir tidak dapat membaca ketika dididik menggunakan pendekatan behavioris. Dia juga mendapat label sebagai siswa yang nakal. Sosok utama mengalami perkembangan yang signifikan ketika dididik menggunakan pendekatan humanistik. Dengan cara ini para pembuat film berusaha menegaskan bahwa pendekatan behavioris memiliki banyak kelemahan dan tidak cocok untuk diterapkan dalam sistem pendidikan formal. My main objective is to take India towards the same Vedic essence where we treated the earth, cow and the ganga as our mother, where AUM is the root cause of all the meditations, where the sustenance is based upon agriculture, where yagya performed to purify the air and where there is no technology but still they were prosperous and happy. Vedic life is full of sustainability, by the praises of the earth, sun, moon, varuna, Indra, vanaspati they are giving the inspiration to worship and protect them- यथा सूययश्च चन्द्रश्च न विभीतो न विभीतो न रिष्यतः एिा मे प्राण मा विभे।1 That is May we all do our work just like the sun and the moon without any fear.
