A New Strategy for Child Development: a Study on Montessori Educational System and the Film Taare Zameen Par
www.TLHjournal.com Literary Herald ISSN: 2454-3365 An International Refereed English e-Journal Impact Factor: 2.24 (IIJIF) A New Strategy for Child Development: A Study on Montessori Educational System and the Film Taare Zameen Par VINU C. JAMES M.Phil Scholar CMS College Coimbatore Abstract The child development is expandable and its potential may differ with the environment. Every child is different and hence, special. The distribution curve shows that most of the children who undergo dyslexia seem to be average in many traits. Few children deviate from the generally accepted norms in many ways. These deviations may give rise to multi factorial problems of adjustments at home, school and social setting and thus, leads to addition of problems in divergence. Deviation can be in terms of physical, social, emotional and mental characteristics. In the film Taare Zameen Par, the director Aamir Khan tried to disclose the present scenario of education. The director enhances his vision and mission through the film and he teaches about unconventional Montessori teaching. Teaching should not force the student to conform to the existing pattern of the world. The students should be equipped to think out of the box and define their own goals instead of fitting their ideas with the prevailing ones. Curricula and assessment should be flexible and encourage critical thinking on the part of the students so that they become compassionate and sensitive human beings. The change in kinship arrangements, and particularly in intermarriage processes, is traced by analysing the reception of Hindi popular cinema. Films and their role and meaning in people´s lives in India was the object of my research. Films also provided me with a methodology for approaching my other subject-matters: family, marriage and love. Through my discussion of cultural change, the persistence of family as a core value and locus of identity, and the movie discourses depicting this dialogue, I have looked for a possibility of compromise and reconciliation in an Indian context. As the primary form of Indian public culture, cinema has the ability to take part in discourses about Indian identity and cultural change, and alleviate the conflicts that emerge within these discourses. Hindi popular films do this, I argue, by incorporating different familiar cultural narratives in a resourceful way, thus creating something new out of the old elements. -

Interrogating Masculinity Through the Child Figure in Bombay Cinema
Networking Knowledge: Journal of the MeCCSA Postgraduate Network, Vol. 4, No. 1 (2011) ARTICLE Interrogating Masculinity through the Child Figure in Bombay Cinema SIDDHARTH PANDEY, University of Delhi, India Abstract Patriarchy is most often understood in relation to the position of women in society. I propose to interrogate patriarchy in relation to children – particularly the male child – as depicted in two major works of Bombay Cinema. The number and scope of critical engagements with the onscreen portrayal of the child figure are restricted, and in the light of this lack I interrogate the portrayal of the male child figure, with particular emphasis on the constructs of masculinity that always implicate the child. The paper will undertake a detailed analysis of these masculine constructs, which are significantly shaped and interrogated in the areas of family and educational institutions for the male child (See Kakar 1981, and Haywood and Mac an Ghaill, 2003). For case studies, I analyze two highly acclaimed contemporary movies of Bombay Cinema: Taare Zameen Par (by Aamir Khan, 2007) and Udaan (by Vikramditya Motwane, 2010). Both movies critique the many notions associated with manhood and masculinity by situating their arguments within the contexts of family and educational institutions. What makes these critiques even more significant is the resistance offered by the child figure to conventional masculine authority through the agency of imagination. With such agency, not only does the male child debunk the traditionally sanctioned interests and attitudes of men, but also brings about a reconfiguration of those behavioral co-ordinates that have till now dominated the domains of family and education. -
Personality Narrative of Victims of Child Abuse
The National Life Skills, Value Education & School Wellness Program IJSHW ISSN:2349-5464 Personality Narrative of Victims of Child Abuse W. Yasashree* & Anushka Suri** *MA, Ambedkar University, Delhi, **MA, Ambedkar University, Delhi Abstract The paper is an interdisciplinary approach towards understanding the personality structure of a victim of child abuse from the encounter with abuse until young adulthood when clinical- pathological manifestations start to occur. The hypothesis of this paper is constructed around the idea that the personality structure of a child abuse victim becomes way more important to understand while it is in the process of development in the here and now than just as a part of the patient’s history after clinical manifestations. The movie, Taare Zameen Par is taken as an example. The author's viewpoint is shared to know about the physical and emotional abuse children face at home and school. The role of parents, teachers, and school administration is discussed along with the defenses that help in coping with the trauma/abuse. The paper also focuses on various preventive and support measures towards the end. The idea thus was to construct a personality structure by linking all the areas mentioned above. Contributions from the vast disciplines of early childhood education and psychotherapy would help in understanding this personality structure. Keywords: Child, Child Abuse, Personality, School, Parents Focus of the paper consequences of abuse on the child who The present paper focuses on the personality encountered it not just from a clinical structure of child abuse victims. Following a psychopathology lens but rather most traumatic event, it becomes very necessary that importantly study and understand the personality the victim of such an unfortunate experience be structure of this child in the home-school space given the space necessary for the expression of before a clinical diagnosis might be arrived at. -
Catch a Falling Star
DATA TRACKER Catch a falling star Who would have thought that Aamir Khan, once the heartthrob of millions, would become the target of so much ridicule and public anger? The star had a dream debut with Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, and subsequently won scores of fans and critical acclaim with movies like Rang de Basanti, Taare Zameen Par and 3 Idiots, among many others. His popularity soared with a television show that he produced and anchored, called Satyameva Jayate (SMJ) — a talk show around social problems such as inequality, abused women, child trafficking and such others.
