SIXTH NATIONAL REPORT TO THE CONVENTION ON BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA Sixth National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity EXECUTIVE SUMMERY The issues concerning the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity of the Republic of Armenia are an important and integral part of the country's environmental strategy that are aimed at the prevention of biodiversity loss and degradation of the natural environment, ensuring the biological diversity and human well- being. Armenia's policy in this field is consistent with the following goals set out in the 2010-2020 Strategic Plan of the Convention on Biological Diversity (hereinafter CBD): 1. Address the underlying causes of biodiversity loss by mainstreaming biodiversity across government and society 2. Reduce the direct pressures on biodiversity and promote sustainable use 3. To improve the status of biodiversity by safeguarding ecosystems, species and genetic diversity 4. Enhance the benefits to all from biodiversity and ecosystem services (hereinafter ES) 5. Enhance implementation through participatory planning, knowledge management and capacity building. The government of the Republic of Armenia approved ''the Strategy and National Action Plan of the Republic of Armenia on Conservation, Protection, Reproduction and Use of Biological Diversity'' (BSAP) in 2015 based on the CBD goals and targets arising thereby supporting the following directions of the strategy of the Republic of Armenia on biodiversity conservation and use: 2 Sixth National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity 1. Improvement of legislative and institutional frameworks related to biodiversity. 2. Enhancement of biodiversity and ecosystem conservation and restoration of degraded habitats. 3. Reduction of the direct pressures on biodiversity and promotion of sustainable use. -

“Building Bridges, Breaking the Walls: Managing Refugee Crisis in Europe” 2-Stage Project TRAINING COURSE & STUDY VISIT Basic information What: Training Course Title: Building Bridges, Breaking the Walls: Managing Refugee Crisis in Europe Venues and dates: Training Course: 20-28 November (including travel days), Yerevan, Armenia Study Visit: February (days will be confirmed), Stockholm, Sweden Participating Countries: Armenia, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Italy, Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, Denmark, Turkey, Czech Republic, Greece, Germany, Georgia, Portugal Idea, theme and objectives Structure The project is intended for 32 youth workers, youth educators, members of civil society organizations from 15 European Union and the Neighboring countries who are ready to actively fight against radicalization, discrimination and intolerance against refugees and migrants in their countries and who want to transfer the knowledge they gained in the project to the youth in their organizations and countries. NOTE! To ensure a long term impact we will involve same 36 youth workers in both activities of the project. Trust of this order has been earned through as much hard work as the scale and quality of completed projects. Despite the severe economic downturn that impacted Armenia and the rest of the world in 2010, the fund not only stayed the course, but went on to raise the bar in terms of fundraising objectives. Such a singular accomplishment belongs equally to the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund and the Armenian nation as a whole. It has entered into the Armenian reality and established itself as a competitive news source among other leading outlets in the last decade. Despite their prosperity and recent popularity in Armenia, online news outlets still face several problems and are still not available to all the layers of the Armenian population. But it is undeniable that during this short period of being in the field of news media, online news websites have become a big part of people’s lives, as they are considered to be the most liberal, objective, and diverse news sources. As a non-governmental organization called Freedom House states, online media in Armenia is free, unlike print media. However, this freedom of online media also has its opposite side as it can also have negative influence, such as too many online news outlets with unprofessional attitudes and distortion of news for the sake of having a big reading audience. -
