Bodegas Nidia D.O. Rueda
BODEGAS NIDIA D.O. RUEDA Bodegas Nidia ABOUT D.O. RUEDA The Denomination of Origin Rueda was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture on January 12, 1980; it was the first Denomination of Origin to be approved in the Region of Castilla y León, after years of hard work in order to earn acknowledgement and protection for its autochthonous grape variety: the Verdejo. This D.O. falls within the influence of the river Duero and is situated on a high plateau of gentle hills. Made up of 72 districts located in the provinces of Valladolid, Segovia and Ávila. The D.O. Rueda stands 700 to 800 metres above sea-level, and consists of flat highlands, with very long, cold winters, short springs with late frosts, and dry, hot summers, only altered by untimely storms. The area has alluvial and flood terraces on the banks of the river Duero. Drk grey-brown soils, rich in calcium and magnesium, stony but easy to farm, with good ventilation and draining, and limestone outcrops on the hilltops. Permeable and healthy, their texture varies from sandy-loamy to loamy. B O U T I Q U E W I N E S www.spanisboutiquewines.com - [email protected] Bodegas Nidia The Denomination of Origin Rueda is one of the few European winegrowing regions specialised in making white wine and in the preservation and development of the Verdejo , the autochthonous grape variety. Rueda wines are marked by the strong personality of the Verdejo grape but other varieties have been incorporated: Sauvignon Blac, Viura y Palomino Fino. -
Review of Smoke Taint in Wine: Smokederived Volatile Phenols And
Krstic et al. Review of smoke taint in wine 537 Review of smoke taint in wine: smoke-derived volatile phenols and their glycosidic metabolites in grapes and vines as biomarkers for smoke exposure and their role in the sensory perception of smoke taint M.P. KRSTIC1, D.L. JOHNSON2 and M.J. HERDERICH2 1 The Australian Wine Research Institute,Victorian Node, Mooroolbark, Vic. 3138, Australia; 2 The Australian Wine Research Institute, Urrbrae, SA 5064, Australia Corresponding author: Dr Mark Krstic, email [email protected] Abstract In recent years, the exposure of vineyards and grapes to smoke from bushfires and controlled burn events has in some instances resulted in wines described as smoke tainted. Such wines are characterised by undesirable sensory characters described as smoky, burnt, ash, smoky bacon, medicinal and ashtray. This review summarises the knowledge about the composition of smoke from forest and grass fires, describes relationships between smoke exposure of vineyards and smoke taint in wine, and outlines strategies for managing and reducing the risk to producing smoke-affected wines. The sensitivity of grapes and vines at different phenological stages to the uptake of contaminants from smoke, especially smoke-derived volatile phenols, is outlined, and the pathways for entry and metabolic transformation of volatile phenols are discussed. The potential for translocation of phenolic contaminants within the grapevine and the differences in uptake of smoke contaminants of different grape cultivars are also discussed, along with preliminary work on dose/response relationships regarding concentration and duration of exposure and subsequent expression of smoke taint in wine. The chemical basis of smoke taint in wine is described, and the relationship between volatile phenols from combustion of wood/lignin and their glycosides, and sensory panel ratings of smoke attributes in affected wines is discussed. -

Viña Albali Cabernet Sauvignon
Viña Albali Vino de la Tierra de Castilla Viña Albali Cabernet Sauvignon Inspired by the clear, starry night sky, Félix Solís wanted to create a wine that would capture the pleasure-loving, life- affirming spirit of the Spanish people. He named it Albali after a star in the constellation of Aquarius. Region Like France’s Vins de Pays, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla is a Spanish geographic indicator for wines from the autonomous region of Castilla-La Mancha. This is a region at an altitude of 700m covered with limestone and argillaceous soils that endure scarce rain falls. VARIETY STYLE Cabernet Sauvignon Still Wine ALCOHOL GRADUATION SERVING TEMPERATURE 13% Serve between 12 and 14ºC. Tasting Notes A well-structured wine with a balance of red and black fruit with hints of pepper, typical of the variety. It has great complexity and a long balanced finish. Food Pairing Goes well with roast vegetables, pork dishes, rice dishes, stew or roast lamb. Technical Information Grapes are carefully selected and gently crushed. The juice and berries are transferred to temperature controlled tanks for fermentation, where colour and flavour from the grapes is gently extracted through pumping the released juice back over the grapes. Awards GOLD 2018 Berliner Wein Trophy: Viña Albali Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Félix Solís Avantis Viña Albali Others Viña Albali Cabernet Tempranillo Low Alcohol This fruity Cabernet Sauvignon Tempranillo blend is made with grapes harvested from our vineyards in Spain, ripened by the sun. An innovative technology gently removes most of the alcohol, without affecting the natural flavours resulting in a drink with all of the taste of wine, but not the alcohol.
