DESCRIPTION OF THE REGION Business transfer UPPER / informative folder The Free State of Bavaria, with a population of 12.5 million, is the largest Federal German State and also one of the most dynamic regions inside the country. With a (GDP) of for investors EUR 549,19 billion in 2015 (Source: www.invest-in-bavaria) Bavaria, as an independent State, would be ahead of 21 of the 28 EU member states. Its capital is a major center of advanced technologies, finance, publishing, culture, innovation, education, business, and in Germany and Europe. For years, according to international city rankings, Munich is one of the top cities in regard to the standard and quality of living. Bavaria has strong economic business relations with its neighbor States , the Czech Republic and and with some of the close regions of the Alpine Space like Northern .

Important characteristics: • The Free State is the number one location in Germany for insurances and number two for banking. • Highly developed sectors are automotive, construction, electrical engineering and electronics, renewable energies and energy technologies, information-, communication- and environment technologies. • Seven out of the 30 DAX-listed companies have their headquarters in the Munich ‎area as well as many so called “hidden champions” of the famed German , mostly family-run businesses that have established themselves as global market leaders. • Bavaria is also number one in Germany for tourism. • Bavaria has almost full employment – in many regions the unemployment rate is below three per cent. • The backbone of the Bavarian economy is its number of highly diverse small and medium-sized enterprises (99 per cent of all Bavarian companies, source: www.statista.de), dislocated within the state’s regions. • High-level apprenticeships, further professional training and the intensive promotion of research and technology have contributed to Bavaria´s achievements of top values on the international level, spending three per cent of the GDP on research and development. • Many international companies and global leaders are located in Bavaria.

Support contact point The supporting contact points in Bavaria are the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Munich and Upper Bavaria (IHK für München und Oberbayern) and the Italian-German Chamber of Commerce in Munich (ITALCAM). The Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Munich and Upper Bavaria has 380.000 member companies and is the largest Chamber of Commerce in Germany. It provides a series of many services to its companies, e. g. support for the business transfer or the company succession. Some of these services, like the e-platform “Nexxt change”, are offered in cooperation with other partners. Italcam is a non-profit association of private German law, recognized by the Italian Government and plays an active role in organizing business meetings, international trade fairs, seminars, conferences and round tables to promote knowledge sharing between the two countries. Italcam doesn´t have a department specialized on company succession, but it has an Italian and German partner network of lawyers, business trustees, notaries, banks, insurance institute which could support the successors and transferors. Thanks to its transitional nature of the company Italcam could bring together successors and transferors on a transnational level, particularly within Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Northern Italy.
