BMCian Chronicle Dec-Jan 2018 -19 An Insight into Intellectual Property Rights The research committee of Bharata Mata College in collaboration with Patent Information Centre - Kerala/Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment conducted a seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’on 4thDecember, 2018. Sri.V.P.Balagangadharan, former Brahmaprakash scientist,VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram inaugurated the seminar. The four sessions of the seminar were effectively handled by veterans in the field to enlighten the audience about the various aspects of IPR. The seminar began with the talk of Sri. V.P. Balagangadharan, He narrated the history of IPR which includes what is IPR and the importance of being aware of it. The second session on“Copy Rights and Trade Marks: Case Studies”was led by Adv. Benoy Kadavan, IPR Consultant and Advocate of Kerala High Court, who is also an alumnus of the college. Adv. Febin James, Trade mark Attorney and Partner, Legalites IP Services, Thrissur handled the third session with the topic “Patentability Criteria and Patent Filing Procedure.” The seminar concluded with the session of Shri Vishnu V A, Project Fellow, PIC-Kerala/ KSCSTE who spoke about “Patent Searching Procedure and Support from PIC- Kerala for IPR.There were 118 participants which comprised of faculty from various departments of the college, research scholars, academicians from other colleges and experts from industries. Febin James Shri Vishnu V A 1 Bharata Mata College, Thrikkakara National Seminar The IQAC of the college organized a NAAC sponsored National Seminar- “Quality Enhancement and Sustenance in Higher Education: Trends Challenges and Way Forward on 5 th January, 2019. The two sessions of the seminar were dealt by Dr. Ponmudi Raj, Advisor, NAAC Bangalore and Dr. Vijukumar V.G, IQAC and NAAC Coordinator, University College, Thiruvanthapuram Dr. Ponmudi Raj inaugurating the seminar Dr. Vijukumar V.G RADIO BMC Radio BMC is a sterling milestone in the history of Bharata Mata College.It is a marvelous avenue for the students to manifest their talents and skills.It also offers the students who are interested in radio broadcasting, communications, sound engineering and media studies a platform to acquire more knowledge in the field through firsthand experience. The radio provides music and news which help the students have leisure amidst their academics and get aware about their locality. The RJs are the students of the college. Programme producing,theme selection, song selection and all the other activities associated with the Radio BMC are done by the students themselves. A committee of the members of the faculty comprising of Dr.Thomas Varghese,Dr.Shalini Jose,Lt. Nithin Thomas and Mr.Tony M Tom monitor the students steering Radio BMC. The manager of the college, Rev. Fr. Jacob G Palackapilly, leads the Radio BMC team. The students interested in radio were given orientation and training by professionals in the field. An orientation programme lead by Mr. Benzy Ayyampilly (RJ, Radio Mango) and Ms.Nitha(RJ, RED FM) was held on 28/7/2018. RJ Nitha addressing the students 2 BMCian Chronicle Dec-Jan 2018 -19 Inauguration of Radio BMC Radio BMC was inaugurated on 12-12-2019 by the famous Malayalam film director, Mr.Lal Jose. The first interview to be broadcast was held with Mr. Lal Jose. Interviews were also held with Ms.Midhila Michael, the leading devotional song singer in Kerala and Sri. Kochouseph Chittilapilly, the founder and chairman of V-Guard,K Chittilappilly foundation and the chain of amusement parks called Wonderla. Radio BMC also interviewed the students from Japan who visited the college on 25/2/2019 under the programme jointly organized by Bharata Mata College and Habittat for Humanity,an international NGO as part of the flood recovery programme. BMC Radio is a well-established campus radio with advanced recording studio,software, sound systems and every other requirements for the proper functioning of a radio. The working time of Radio BMC has been fixed between 9 am -9.30 am and 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm so that the class hours will not be disturbed. The different programmes are Good Mornning BMC: comprises ofthoughts and motivating incidents to instill positive energy in students and birthday wishes. Let’s Talk BMC: includes interview with famous personalilties, students and teachers who have achievements and talent shows. The Campus Ministry, the college union and all the departments joined hands to organize various colourful events like Crib Making competion, Card making competion and Carol Singing competion to spread the joy of Christmas. Once Again Under the Shade of Bharata Mata…. Bharata Mata Old Students Association (BOSA) held the annual Alumni Meet on 26th January 2019. The association honoured Smt. Regi Augustine, Dept. of Physics, Dr. M.V Rosa, Dept. of Mathematics and Mr. Jacob Varghese, Dept. of Botany who are retiring this year from the service. Litto Palathingal (Joint secretary, BOSA) and Jortin Antony (secretary, BOSA) were present on the occasion. 4 BMCian Chronicle Dec-Jan 2018 -19 BOSA - Alumni Meet Department Activities ENGLISH Wall Magazine Release (07/12/2018) Smt.Smitha Elizabeth George unveiled the wall magazine, ‘A Tribute to Stan Lee.’The magazine was a tribute from the students to the late comic book legend, Stan Lee. It is a glimpse into the life of Stan Lee and the iconic superheroes created by him.Nithin Raj, Student Representative of I DC spoke on the well-known heroes that Stan Lee contributed to the Hollywood film industry. Plastic Bottle Challenge Chrysalis 19’ endorses the theme Ashes to Diamonds by taking up a plastic bottle challenge in association with #I ChallengePlastic Bottle movement initiated by Fr Davis Chirammel Foundation and supported by the Rotary Club of Cochin North.On 6 December 2018, Rev Fr Davis Chirammel visited the college and appreciated the teacher and students of the department for meticulously executing the herculean task of handpicking about 25000 plastic bottles within the short span of one month. He reminded the students that the cause behind the campaign should be continued with the same vigour and passion. 5 Bharata Mata College, Thrikkakara On the 19th December, 544 kilograms of plastic bottles collected as part of Chrysalis 2019 was handed over to Mr. Abu Saleem of Kerala Scrap Merchant Association. The money generated by the same was used to buy a sewing machine which was donated to a flood affected family in Varapuzha.The handing over was done by the Manager Fr. Jacob G Palackappilly. Staging of the play Macbeth by the III DC students Lecture on Higher Education Prospects for the English UG students A Power point presentation on the vast possibilities of National and International Higher Education prospects for the UG students was conducted by the faculty of the English department on 10.01.2019 Unveiling the Chrysalis ’19 Brochure and Promo Video Rev. Fr. Jacob G Palackapilly, the Manager, of the college officially unveiling the brochure of Chrysalis’19 by handing over it to Dr. Shiny Palatty, the Principal, in the presence of Ms.Lissy Kachappilly (HoD, English) along with the team Chrysalis. Dr. Shiny Palatty officially releasing the promo video of Chrysalis ’19 6 BMCian Chronicle Dec-Jan 2018 -19 Value Education class (25/01/2019) A value education class was conducted by Patricia Gonzales, to the English students in association with World Youth Parliament. PHYSICS CSIS – CUSAT 36 Students of I BSc Physics (Model I & Model II) accompanied by two teachers of the department attended the One Day Attachment Programme (ODAP) of C-SiS, CUSAT on 03/12/2018. The programme started with a lecture by the C-SiS authorities. Followed by visit to the labs, pavilions and science parks to experience and feel science. AURA-2018: International Energy Conservation Day As a part of Christmas celebrations the department conducted an exhibition and sale of LED serial bulb, star and emergency lamps made by the students under the guidance of the teachers and the technical staff. Talk on Higher Education in Physics by Mr. Prasanth. S and Ms. Silpa (11/01/2019) Open House Programme at CUSAT 25 students from the department attended the open house programme organized by the Department of Physics, CUSAT 23rd January 2019. The class was followed by a mock test. MSW UDAYAM – 2019 Social sensitization camp was organized for the I MSW at Anchukudi hamlet, Elumblassery from 22/1/2019-28/1/82019.The objective of the camp was to renovate and paint the MGLC school. Awareness programmes were conducted and surveys were taken in the camp.
