Limerick City & County Council County Limerick Road Traffic Special Speed Limit Byelaws 2019 For National, Regional & Local Roads County Limerick Special Speed Limit Byelaws 2019 for National, Regional & Local Roads SPEED LIMIT BYE-LAWS Limerick City & County Council in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Section 9 of the Road Traffic Act, 2004 (No. 44 of 2004), hereby makes the following bye-laws in respect of the area comprising the administrative area of the County of Limerick. The maps annexed to these bye-laws are for illustrative purposes only and in the event of a conflict between the maps and the text of the Schedule hereto, the text of the Schedule shall take precedence. 1. These bye-laws may be cited as the County Limerick Road Traffic Special Speed Limits (National, Regional & Local Roads) Bye-laws, 2019. 2. These bye-laws shall come into operation on the 1st day of November, 2019. 3. In these bye-laws: “the Act of 1993” means the Roads Act, 1993 (No. 14 of 1993); “the Act of 1994” means the Road Traffic Act, 1994 (No. 7 of 1994); "the Act of 2001" means Local Government Act 2001; “the Act of 2004” means the Road Traffic Act, 2004 (No. 44 of 2004); ‘’The Act of 2010’’ means the Road Traffic Act, 2010 (No. 25 of 2010); “built-up area” has the meaning assigned to it in the Local Government Act 2001; “distance” means distance measured along the centre line of a road; “the Minister” means the Minister for Transport; “local road” has the meaning assigned to it by the Act of 1993; “regional road” has the meaning assigned to it by the Act of 1993; “national road” has the meaning assigned to it by the Act of 1993; “motorway” has the meaning assigned to it by the Act of 1993; “administrative area” has the meaning assigned to it in section 25(4) (a) and Part 1 of Schedule 1 of the Local Government Act 2014; “mechanically propelled vehicle “ has the meaning assigned to it in Section 3(1) of the Road Traffic Act, 1961; Limerick City & County Council September 2019 Page | 1 County Limerick Special Speed Limit Byelaws 2019 for National, Regional & Local Roads “perimeter road” means a road on and along the roadway of which there runs the boundary of a county borough or a town and shall be considered as being within such boundary for the purposes of these bye-laws; “road” means a public road and includes a motorway. “Administrative County of Limerick” means the County and City of Limerick. 4. The special speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on roads specified in the First Schedule shall be 30 kilometres per hour. 5. The periodic special speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on roads specified in the Second Schedule shall be 50 kilometres per hour. 6. The special speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on roads specified in the Third Schedule shall be 50 kilometres per hour. 7. The special speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on roads specified in the Fourth Schedule shall be 60 kilometres per hour. 8. The special speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on roads specified in the Fifth Schedule shall be 80 kilometres per hour. 9. The special speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on roads specified in the Sixth Schedule shall be 100 kilometres per hour. 10. The special speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on roads specified in the Seventh Schedule shall be 120 kilometres per hour. 11. Exceptions: The following shall be excepted from the special speed limit prescribed in these Bye-Laws:- (a) ambulances, (b) fire brigade vehicles, and (c) vehicles used by members of the Garda Siochana in the performance of their duties as such members. 12. The following roads at Abbeyfeale: (a) All roads within the housing estate of Cryle View, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the N21. (b) All roads within the housing estate of Willowbrook, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the N21. (c) All roads within the housing estate of Cedar Ville, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the N21. (d) All roads within the housing estate of Rodharc Na Feile, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the L1324. (e) All roads within the housing estate of Hillview Drive, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the L1324. (f) All roads within the housing estate of Ardan Naomh Ide, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the L7089. (g) All roads within the housing estate of Hillary Close, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the N21. (h) All roads within the housing estate of The Orchard, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the N21. (i) All roads within the housing estate of Maple Court, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the N21. (j) All roads within the housing estate of Bridge View, Abbeyfeale from its Junction with the R524. (k) All roads within the housing estate of Collins Park, Abbeyfeale from its junction with the L7112. (l) All roads within the housing estate of Gleann Cryle, Abbeyfeale from its junction with the L7089. (m) All roads within the housing estate of The Grove, Abbeyfeale from its junction with the L7112. The following roads at Adare: (a) All roads within the housing estate of Abbey View, Adare from its junction with the L-1423 Station Road. (b) All roads within the housing estate of Deerpark Estate, Adare from its junction with the L-1422 Blackabbey Road. (c) All roads within Manor Court/Abbeyville Estate, Adare from its junction with the L- 1423 Station Road. 3. The following roads at Anglesborough: (a) All roads within the housing estate of Cluaindara, Anglesborough from its junction with the L-1526 Road. 4. The following roads at Annacotty: (a) All roads within the housing estates of Salmon Weir and Annacotty Square, Annacotty from its junction with the L-1111. (b) All roads within the housing estates of Carrigeen and Castlemara, Annacotty from its junction with the Newtown Avenue. (c) All roads within the housing estates of Roskeen and Newtown Park, Annacotty from its junctions with the Newtown Avenue and the Newtown Rd L-1113. (d) All roads within the housing estate of Bloomfield, Annacotty from its junction with the Castletroy College Road L-1165. (e) All roads within the housing estate of Cherryfield and Thornfield, Annacotty from its junction with the Castletroy College Road L-1165. (f) All roads within the housing estate of Beechfield, Annacotty from its junction with the L-1121. (g) All roads within the housing estate of Monaleen Heights, Annacotty from its junction with the Monaleen Road L-1114. (h) All roads within the housing estate of The Fairways, Annacotty from its junction with the Monaleen Road L-1114 and its junction with the Schoolhouse Road L-1115. The following roads at Ardagh: (a) All roads within the housing estate of Dale Grove, Ardagh from its Junction with the L1338. (b) All roads within the housing estate of O’Connor Park, Ardagh from its Junction with the L1338. 6. The following roads at Askeaton: (a) All roads within the housing estate of Church View, Askeaton from its junction with the R-518 Road. (b) All roads within the housing estate of Friary Court, Askeaton from its junction with the R-518 Road. (c) All roads within the housing estate of Plunkett Road Estate, Askeaton from its junction with the R-518 and its junction with the L-1221 Ballycullen Road. (d) All roads within the housing estate of St. Francis Avenue, Askeaton from its junction with the R-518 Road. (e) All roads within the housing estate of Deel Manor, Askeaton from its junction with the R-518 Road. 7. The following roads at Athea: (a) All roads within the housing estate of Markievics Park, Athea from its Junction with the R523. (b) All roads within the housing estate of Galeside Drive, Athea from its Junction with the R524. (c) All roads within the housing estate of Hillside Drive, Athea from its junction with the R-524. 8. The following roads at Athlacca: (a) All roads within the housing estate of Cois Abhainn, Athlacca from its junction with the L-1549 Bruree Road. 9. The following roads at Ballingarry: (a) All roads within the housing estate of Clontemple/Kilshane Court, Ballingarry from its junctions with the R-518 Rathkeale to Killmallock Road.
