Egyptian Comprehension Questions – Answer sheet

LO: To use evidence from the text and inference skills to answer questions

Steps to success:  I can answer questions by finding evidence in a story I have heard.  I can use inference to describe a character’s feelings and give evidence from the text for my answers.

Using the video or the PDF of the book Egyptian Cinderella, find evidence in the text to answer these questions. Don’t forget to write the question number neatly in the margin in your book and write your answer in a full sentence!

1. Where was Rhodipis born and how did she get to ? was born in Greece and she was stolen by Pirates who took her to Egypt. 2. Write 3 ways that Rhodopis looked different to the other servant girls. The servant girls had straight hair, tanned copper skin and brown eyes. Rhodopis had tangled hair, pale skin and green eyes. 3. How did the servant girls feel about Rhodopis? What evidence in the text tells you that? The servant girls did not like her because they teased her and called her names. “Rosy Rhodopis” scoffed the servant girls, hissing her name. 4. In the text it says ‘Rhodopis always hurried to do their bidding’, what do you think ‘bidding’ means? Use the story to help you. Anything that explains ‘bidding’ means ‘orders’ . 5. What did Rhodopis sometimes do when her chores were done? When her chores were done, Rhodopis would dance for her animal friends. 6. How did the Egyptian servants feel when they saw Rhodopis’s slippers and why? The servants felt jealous because they had ‘clumsy sandals made from Papyrus’ and her slippers were dainty and beautiful. 7. Where did the Egyptian servants go in their boat? The servant girls went to Memphis in their boat to see the Pharaoh. 8. What bird did Rhodopis see in the sky and what was his name? Rhodopis saw a great falcon called Horus. 9. What word or phrase shows that Rhodopis was crying after the Falcon took her slipper. She was ‘salting the river with her tears’ shows that she was crying. 10. What did Amasis think the slipper was? Amasis thought the slipper was a scrap of the sun and a sign from the Gods. 11. Which 3 places did the Pharaoh visit on his journey to find the owner of the slipper? Amasis visited the desert, distant cities and the steep cliffs. 12. How did Rhodopis feel when the barge came round the bend and why? Rhodopis felt alarmed so she hid because of the noise they were making. 13. Where did Amasis see Rhodopis? Amasis saw her peering through the rushes. 14. Why did Amasis think Rhodopis was ‘the most Egyptian of all’? Use evidence from the text. Amasis thought she was the most Egyptian of all because her eyes were as green as the Nile, her hair as feathery as papyrus and her skin of a Lotus flower.
