It was how we played as a team. Every single player played a 9/10 minimum and the subs came on and had a major impact too, it was a proper team performance. We have been demanding that kind of performance from ourselves all season and to do it in our biggest game was amazing. But.... the result the game after wasn't acceptable especially after such a big win, we know we have to be consistent every game not just the big ones! Moving onto this Saturday there's no doubt about it we have to all hit a 9/10 in possession but a 10/10 out of possession. We have a free hit here as no one is expecting us to win but we will always back ourselves against anyone especially when we are the underdogs and at home! We need to play with no fear and cover every blade of grass and if we still lose then that's okay but if we don't work our socks off and lose we would have let the club and our fans down! We look forward to the occasion and it's the type of occasion the new ground deserves after all the hard work that has been put in by the club, sponsors and volunteers over the summer. Look forward to seeing you all soon. Wow we just seem to be moving the Boatmen in the right direct both on and off the field. Last week saw an amazing game of football which had everything including two floodlight failures but that didn’t deter the tenacity the boys showed to get the result over the line. Then Saturday it was a return to another cup opportunity in the FA Trophy but it was a little like after the Lord Mayor’s show falling to a 2-0 defeat. Then Tuesday after a slow start normality was regained with a Dan Mason strike on the stroke of half time to retain the Russell Cotes Cup for a second year. So on to today’s game, another occasion that will go down in the clubs history reaching the 4th qualifying round for the 1st time has meant we are only 90 minutes away from the 1st round proper. Everybody’s dream like Byron said we have nothing to lose today it is a free hit for us. Yes we will be under the media spotlight with BT Sport BBC Radio Solent BBC Radio Devon & BBC South all sending reporters to hope to witness an upset. The interest in this game was massive with only 400 tickets allowed to be sold they were swallowed up inside 24 hours with the demand for tickets three fold. Due to the current guidelines it has certainly impacted on how many people we were likely to have had but we have to deal with what is in front of us. Getting the home draw has allowed us to let fans in had it been at Torquay we know no fans would have been allowed to attend. So let’s get behind the boys today raise the roof at The Mackoy and make it another memorable occasion for the Boatmen and get a chance at being in the hat for Monday’s draw. Sholing Football Club History The Boatmen have a long but fragmented history, running teams from the Woolston Works as early as 1884, when they are recorded as being refused permission by the Hants & Dorset FA to introduce fresh players as substitutes at half-time. In March 1887 they were finalists in the first Portsmouth Challenge Cup, beaten 1-0 by Portsmouth Association Club. The Club were only beaten twice in 16 games that year (goal tally 72-6) and won the last Hants & Dorset Challenge Cup before these Associations split. Woolston Works won the first ever Hampshire Senior Cup Final in 1888, beating Winchester 2-0. There was some controversy that year concerning Woolstons professional attitude, which was infamously referred to as "Kesson's Boots'. Andover were beaten in an earlier round by Woolston, in which a Glasgow - based player called J. Kesson played a prominent part. Andover protested that Kesson should be disqualified on the grounds of residency - although he had played for Woolston Works earlier that season, he had since moved back to Glasgow. Woolstons appeal rested on the fact that Kesson had left a number of clothing items at his lodgings in Woolston, and this should be interpreted as his intention to return. The Hampshire FA upheld the appeal and allowed Kesson to play. Re-forming after World War 1 as Thornycrofts (Woolston), they turned professional and were admitted into the Hampshire County League from 1920/21 to 1925/26. In 1920/21 Thornycrofts reached the FA Cup First Round proper, meeting first Division Burnley at Fratton Park, and held them to a 0-0 draw, before losing 5-0 in the replay. Burnley were in the middle of a 30 game unbeaten run and went on to win the first Division Championship. Thornycrofts Woolston re-formed in 1947 but were only able to keep going until 1952. The Club were re-formed as Vosper Thornycroft FC in 1960 and joined the Southampton Junior League. After several successful years, Vospers were promoted to the Hampshire League Division 3 in 1991. The following season they were promoted to Division 2. 1997/98 saw Vospers as Hampshire Division 2 Runners-up and also Hampshire Intermediate Cup Winners. In 2001/02 Vospers won the Southampton Senior Cup. 2002/03 Vospers were re-named as VT FC (after the parent company), and saw the Club as Runners-up in the Southampton Senior Cup.
