Queensland will have gained an extra Division in five of the past six Parliaments. The current distribution will only apply to the next election after which a new distribution will be required.

Background Cotton growing first became established in Queensland in the 1860's when disruptions to American production caused by the American Civil War (1861-1.865) caused the world price of cotton to rise sharply.
