MAKE YOUR OWN GALLERY Did you know that the Hugh Lane Gallery is over 100 years old? The beautiful building in which it is located is even older. Read on to find out more! CHARLEMONT HOUSE: Charlemont House was built in 1765 by James Caulfield (4th Viscount Charlemont). Two famous architects William Chambers and James Gandon designed the house. James wanted to build a townhouse that was a centre piece for Rutland Square, as it was known then, now it is called Parnell Square. Outside was a special area for horse drawn carriages to come off the road so that visitors could disembark right in front of the main entrance.
