Something you don’t want in your shock absorber. It’s devastating because basically it means the damping is lost. Small bubbles in the oil can never create the necessary damping forces. Traditional dampers working in extreme conditions sometimes suffers from low pressure on the piston backside. The TTX was created by Öhlins engineers to eliminate the risk for cavitation. They succeeded. With the TTX technology a positive pressure balance is created in the shock which means the risk for cavitation is gone. TTX stands for Twin Tube with the X illustrating how the flow through the valves in the cylinder- heard is designed. Thanks to the twin tube technology the pressure usually created on top of the piston is transferred through the cylinder head and the adjusters for compression and rebound, then flows through the space between the inner and outer tube to the other side of the solid piston.

  • The Role of Electric Motorsport in the Sustainable Mobility Transition
The Role of Electric Motorsport in the Sustainable Mobility Transition Master Thesis – Master Sustainable Business and Innovation Author: Bram Weggemans Student Number: 6942857 Email Address: [email protected] Supervisor: Dr. Matthijs Punt Second Reader: Dr. Toon Meelen Date: 30-06-2021 Course: SBI-Master’s Thesis Word Count: 19940 Abstract Electric vehicles (EVs) are perceived as a viable technology for the replacement of combustion engine vehicles for a transition towards a more sustainable mobility system. Transition theory emphasizes that development of sustainable technologies such as EVs can be achieved within niches, which are protective spaces that shield sustainable technologies from mainstream market selection pressures. An interesting environment that has generally been known for innovative developments with regard to mobility has recently seen an increased usage of EVs. This environment is the motorsport. This paper therefore aims to identify the role that the electric motorsport as niche plays in the development of EVs for a transition towards a more sustainable mobility system. In order to fulfil this aim, a qualitative research approach was used where both semi-structured interviews and grey literature was analysed. The electrification of certain categories of the FIA World Rallycross Championship as well as the Extreme E were selected to exemplify the entire electric motorsport. The protective space conceptualisation of Smith and Raven (2012) that focuses on shielding, nurturing and empowering processes was used to conduct the analysis and describe the electric motorsport as a niche. The analysis showed that the electric motorsport as niche shows great capabilities of making contributions towards the development of EVs, but currently is not utilised to this potential.

Consequently, Audi Sport, in addition to its commitments in Formula E and the DTM, will be competing in the FIA World Rallycross Championship as well. Longstanding Audi factory driver Mattias Ekström founded EKS in early 2014, subsequently leading the squad to the top of the world’s standings with great personal commitment within the space of only three years. In the 2016 season, Ekström and EKS in the all-wheel-drive Audi S1 EKS RX quattro won both the drivers’ and the teams’ world championships against strong competitors from Ford, Peugeot, Volkswagen and numerous privateer teams. “We realized that it was becoming increasingly difficult for EKS to stand its ground against the factory teams, so we decided to intensify our commitment in the World RX,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass. Thanks to factory help from AUDI AG, the EKS project can continue.

Audi and Ekström rock Hockenheim • Mattias Ekström wins round three in World Rallycross Championship too • Swede remains unbeaten in the 2017 season and extends overall lead • Ekström: “My team has done another great job” Hockenheim, May 7, 2017 – Mattias Ekström and his Team EKS remain the measure of all things in the 2017 FIA World Rallycross Championship. In round three of the season at the Hockenheimring, the reigning world champion was again not to be beaten. In difficult weather conditions, the Swede, shortly before the DTM qualifying session for race two, prevailed against his compatriots Johan Kristoffersson and Timmy Hansen in a gripping final. In the drivers’ classification, Ekström has extended his lead. In the teams’ classification, world champions EKS continue to trail Team PSRX Volkswagen Sweden in second place. At the Hockenheimring, Ekström continued last year’s success with a forceful drive. “Winning here at Hockenheim, in front of the many DTM and rallycross fans, is an incredible feeling,” said Ekström with a big grin on his face. For a long time it did not seem like the Swede would be able to celebrate another success. Although Ekström and his teammates, Reinis Nitišs and Toomas Heikkinen, had again qualified for the semi-final of the twelve best drivers, positions four, eleven and twelve were not a good starting base. “On Friday and Saturday, we had a few problems keeping pace with the competition,” said Ekström. “Unfortunately, due to my double commitment in the World RX and the DTM, I wasn’t able to spend a lot of time with the team and to help getting a handle on these issues.
