PRACHTLANDSCHAP NOORD-HOLLAND! Isocarp Urban Task Force Schipholregion F l a s h r e p o r t 19 april 2006 Antonia Cornaro, Chris Gossop, Ulla Hoyer, Nupur Prothi, Alain Tierstein, Maurits Schaafsma (editor) 1. Introduction This is a ‘Flash Report’ on the findings of the Urban Task Force (UTF) Schipholregion. A Flash Report is a short UTF-report with main findings and conclusions. The Urban Task Force Schipholregion is an initiative of the Gebiedsuitwerking Haarlemmermeer-Bollenstreek and Isocarp. The Gebiedsuitwerking is a planning initiative of regional and local authorities at the request of the minister of planning and housing. The area The goal of the initiative is to produce an integrated spatial plan or vision for this region for the years to 2020, comprising 10-20.000 housing units, business development, leisure, infrastructure and water excess storage areas for 1.000.000 m3. The area is located between Isocarp Urban Task Force Schipholregion 1 Schiphol Airport, the North Sea coast, Amsterdam and Leiden/Den Haag. One of the main issues is to look into the possibilities for housing, giving the noise and development restrictions caused by nearby Schiphol Airport. Four models for development, drawn by the Gebiedsuitwerking-team The Urban Task Force was asked to give reflections on the preliminary results of the Gebiedsuitwerking. This was organized as a 2,5 day workshop with participants of the Gebiedsuitwerking (Municipality Haarlemmermeer, Province of North-Holland) and 6 members of Isocarp. 2. Observations • In the 1990’s the Netherlands set and promoted highly advanced environmental policies. It seems the environmental focus and its associated advanced position has disappeared completely. -
Modern Architecture and Modern Furniture
Modern Architecture and Modern Furniture 14 docomomo 46 — 2012/1 docomomo46.indd 14 25/07/12 11:13 odern architecture and Modern furniture originated almost during the same period of time. Modern architects needed furniture compatible with their architecture and because Mit was not available on the market, architects had to design it themselves. This does not only apply for the period between 1920 and 1940, as other ambitious architectures had tried be- fore to present their buildings as a unit both on the inside and on the outside. For example one can think of projects by Berlage, Gaudí, Mackintosh or Horta or the architectures of Czech Cubism and the Amsterdam School. This phenomenon originated in the 19th century and the furniture designs were usually developed for the architect’s own building designs and later offered to the broader consumer market, sometimes through specialized companies. This is the reason for which an agree- ment between the architect and the commissioner was needed, something which was not always taken for granted. By Otakar M á c ˆe l he museum of Czech Cubism has its headquarters designed to fit in the interior, but a previous epitome of De in the Villa Bauer in Liboˇrice, a building designed Stijl principles that culminated in the Schröderhuis. -
From Airfield to Airportcity Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Is More Than Just an Airport
From Airfield to AirportCity Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is more than just an airport. It’s actually a modern city with runways designed around a vibrant city centre. The airport is an international hub offering multi-modal forms of transport to both people and goods, with numerous From facilities. This is what makes Amsterdam Airport Schiphol an AirportCity. A city where everyone is welcome Airfield to but where no-one lives. It’s also a city that never sleeps. AirportCity April 2019 Royal Schiphol Group +31 (0)20 601 2673 schiphol.nl youtube.com/schiphol Welcome to Amsterdam Airport In more ways than one Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is a remarkable airport. Schiphol Airport exists more than 100 years. Remarkable is also that it lies more than four metres below sea level on reclaimed land on the bottom of a former lake. Moreover, the airport is still situated on exactly the same site as where the first aircraft landed in 1916. Despite having expanded extensively, the airport has never moved from its original location. Amsterdam Airport AirportCity Schiphol is therefore the oldest international airport still on the same location. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has the atmosphere of a metropolis and is a shining example of an AirportCity: a leading, efficient airport that provides the full range of services required by visitors and companies located there 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Royal Schiphol Group is an airport company and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is its principal airport. We aim to create sustainable value for our stakeholders, with due regard for their various interests. -
