TRANSLATION What else is there to say about the residential house of the Päëòavas? Çré Kåñëa, the Lord of everything, acted as your minister. He used to enter that house as if it were His own, and He did not take any care of Duryodhana's house. PURPORT According to the Gauòéya acintya-bhedäbheda-tattva philosophy, anything which satisfies the senses of the Supreme Lord, Çré Kåñëa, is also Çré Kåñëa. For example, Çré Våndävana-dhäma is nondifferent from Çré Kåñëa (tad-dhäma våndävanam) because at Våndävana the Lord enjoys the transcendental bliss of His internal potency. Similarly, the house of the Päëòavas was also the source of transcendental bliss for the Lord. It is mentioned here that the Lord identified the house with His own Self. Thus the house of the Päëòavas was as good as Våndävana, and Vidura should not have given up that place of transcendental bliss. Therefore the reason for his quitting the house was not exactly family misunderstanding; rather, Vidura took the opportunity to meet Åñi Maitreya and discuss transcendental knowledge. For a saintly person like Vidura, any disturbance due to worldly affairs is insignificant. Kindly oblige, my lord, and describe this to us. PURPORT Exactly as Çaunaka Åñi inquired of Süta Gosvämé and Süta Gosvämé replied, so Çréla Çukadeva Gosvämé replied to King Parékñit's inquiries. The King was very anxious to understand the meaningful discussion that took place between the two great souls. TRANSLATION Saint Vidura was a great and pure devotee of the Lord, and therefore his questions to His Grace Åñi Maitreya must have been very purposeful, on the highest level, and approved by learned circles. PURPORT Questions and answers among different classes of men have different value. Inquiries by mercantile men in a business exchange cannot be expected to be highly purposeful in spiritual values. Questions and answers by different classes of men can be guessed by the caliber of the persons concerned. In Bhagavad-gétä, the discussion was between Lord Çré Kåñëa and Arjuna, the Supreme Person and the supreme devotee respectively. The Lord admitted Arjuna to be His devotee and friend (Bg. 4.3), and therefore any sane man can guess that the discussion was on the topic of the bhakti-yoga system. Actually the whole Bhagavad-gétä is based on the principle of bhakti-yoga. There is a difference between karma and karma-yoga. Karma is regulated action for the enjoyment of the fruit by the performer, but karma-yoga is action performed by the devotee for the satisfaction of the Lord. Karma-yoga is based on bhakti, or pleasing the Lord, whereas karma is based on pleasing the senses of the performer himself. According to Çrémad-Bhägavatam, one is advised to approach a bona fide spiritual master when one is actually inclined to question from an elevated level of spiritual understanding. A common man who has no interest in spiritual values has no need to approach a spiritual master just as a matter of following fashion. Both of them knew that the topics discussed by Vidura and Åñi Maitreya were elevated, and thus Mahäräja Parékñit was very interested in learning from the bona fide spiritual master.     Bhagavata Purana The Bh āgavata Pur āṇa (Devanagari : भागवतपुराण ; also Śrīmad Bh āgavata Mah ā Pur āṇa, Śrīmad Bh āgavatam or Bh āgavata ) is one of Hinduism 's eighteen great Puranas (Mahapuranas , great histories).[1][2] Composed in Sanskrit and available in almost all Indian languages,[3] it promotes bhakti (devotion) to Krishna [4][5][6] integrating themes from the Advaita (monism) philosophy of Adi Shankara .[5][7][8] The Bhagavata Purana , like other puranas, discusses a wide range of topics including cosmology, genealogy, geography, mythology, legend, music, dance, yoga and culture.[5][9] As it begins, the forces of evil have won a war between the benevolent devas (deities) and evil asuras (demons) and now rule the universe. Truth re-emerges as Krishna, (called " Hari " and " Vasudeva " in the text) – first makes peace with the demons, understands them and then creatively defeats them, bringing back hope, justice, freedom and good – a cyclic theme that appears in many legends.[10] The Bhagavata Purana is a revered text in Vaishnavism , a Hindu tradition that reveres Vishnu.[11] The text presents a form of religion ( dharma ) that competes with that of the Vedas , wherein bhakti ultimately leads to self-knowledge, liberation ( moksha ) and bliss.[12] However the Bhagavata Purana asserts that the inner nature and outer form of Krishna is identical to the Vedas and that this is what rescues the world from the forces of evil.[13] An oft-quoted verse is used by some Krishna sects to assert that the text itself is Krishna in literary

Probably he hailed from Kalinga region. He was a person if Bharadvaja gotra and an adviser to Shatrujna the king of Sauvira. He told Duryodhana that when the close relatives like brothers, parents, teachers, and friends are our enemies, we should talk sweet outwardly and plan for destroying them. Heretics, robbers, theives and poor persons should be employed to kill them by poison. Outwardly we should pretend to be religiously.Rituals, sacrifices etc should be performed. Taking people into confidence by these means we should hit our enemy when the time is ripe. In this way Kanika secretly advised Duryodhana to plan against Pandavas. Duryodhana approached his father Dhritarashtra and appealed to him to send out Pandavas to some other place. Initially Dhritarashtra said Pandavas are also my sons, they are well behaved, brave, they will add to the wealth and the reputation of our kingdom, and therefore, it is not proper to send them out. However, Duryodhana insisted that they should be sent out. He said he has mastered one hundred and thirty powerful hymns that will protect him from the enemies.

Soon after, the sage again came to the palace in order to approach Ambika for a second time. The queen was alarmed at the prospect of meeting again with the terrible-looking åñi. She went to a maidservant who was an intimate friend and asked that she take her place. Giving the servant her own ornaments and adorning her with the finest robes, she had her wait in the bedchamber for the sage. Although he knew everything the åñi entered the chamber as before.     Sanskar Gurukul Weekly Update Class Name: Bhargava Week# 20: February 22nd, 2015 General Assembly Sridhar Uncle started the GA with three Omkars followed by the Shanti Mantra. This was followed by a chanting of the Shri Guru Stotram. Two volunteers from Valmiki class explained the meaning of the 6th verse of the Gita Dhyanam after everyone chanted the first five verses. Bheeshmadronatataa jayadrathajalaa gaandhaaraneelotpalaa; Shalyagraahavatee kripena vahanee karnena velaakulaa; Ashwatthaama-vikarna-ghora-makaraa duryodhanaavartinee; Sotteernaa khalu paandavai rananadee kaivartakah keshavah. With Kesava (Lord Krishna) guiding them (navigating the boat), the Pandavas crossed the battle-river, whose banks were Bhishma and Drona, whose water was Jayadratha, whose blue lotus was the king of Gandhara, whose crocodile was Salya, whose current was Kripa, whose billow was Karna, whose terrible alligators were Vikarna and Asvatthama, whose whirlpool was Duryodhana. This situation applies in our everyday life. As we live our lives, we will encounter, lots of problems (just like the Pandavas did). There will be lots of obstacles, but staying focused and keeping faith will help us overcome them. Class We started the class with the chanting of the Shishyaanushaasanam. Narada class joined us! Then we continued on to the Mahabharatha. In Dwaitavana, after the departure of sage Maitreya, the Pandavas settle in and as the argument between Yudhistira, Draupadi and Bheema about revenge and the time to act finishes, age Veda Vyasa visits them. He assures them that Yudhistira’s path to live out the 12 years of exile and the year of disguise, is the right way, besides with such great warriors on the Kaurava side, such as Radheya, Drona and Bheeshma, all students of Sage Bhargava and blessed with divine astras, the Pandavas as they were today wouldn’t stand a chance.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva. Our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj says that the meaning of Dhrtarashtra's name is also very interesting and it very well matched his nature. Dhṛta means to "catch hold of" and rāṣṭra means "nation". Since he was very much attached to ruling the nation, he was called Dhrtarashtra. Maharaj says that just like how Dhrtarashtra was attached to the nation, we are also Dhṛta-house Dhṛta-land, Dhṛta-gold, Dhṛta-dollar, Dhṛta-pound. The 13th Chapter of First Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam is titled - "Dhrtarashtra quits home", shows how a conditioned soul who is entangled in attachment to such material things can become free from all such entanglements. So praying to the lotus feet of Srila Gurudeva, Srila Prabhupada and all the Vaishnavas, let us try to meditate on some of the verses in this Chapter. Suta Goswami begins this chapter by narrating to the sages about the return of Vidura to Hastinapura after his pilgrimage. Prior to the Kurukshetra war, Vidura being insulted by Duryodhana, considering it as special mercy of Lord Krishna leaves for pilgrimage. During that time he met the great sage Maitreya Muni and received transcendental knowledge from him. In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.13.2 Suta Goswami says, yāvataḥ kṛtavān praśnān kṣattā kauṣāravāgrataḥ jātaika-bhaktir govinde tebhyaś copararāma ha After asking various questions and becoming established in the transcendental loving service of Lord Krishna, Vidura retired from putting questions to Maitreya Muni.
