And a good Wednesday evening to you. Hope you are all doing well. Well, another day done. And another week over halfway finished. Just keep up that positive outlook and of course keep that smile going. In addition to helping us keep a happy frame of mind, remember it makes people wonder what you are up to. Following is our Daily Recap of major Headlines, the “Good Stuff”, US Snapshots, US Vaccinations, US Variant Cases, Highlights, as well as key Statistics, Vaccine and Treatment information, US Restrictions and the Back to Normal Index related to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Tonight, we find our inspiration from an Unknown author, who said: When are you are resting because you are worn out, you need to remember that you are wasting the day doing nothing. You are doing exactly what you need to do. You are recovering. The physical and mental toll each of us has experienced over the last 16 months has worn us all down. Day after what seemed like endless day of dealing with too many challenges and struggles. If you were like me there was more than one occasion you just wanted to keep the sheet over your head and stay in bed. But we didn’t. We found a way to keep going. We overcame. We preserved. We picked ourselves up and did our best to keep going and look ahead. But we are human. We all just need to remember that it’s ok sometimes to stop. It’s ok to just do nothing. We all need that “sanity day” sometimes. Of heck even just a “sanity hour” every now and then. So, you have our permission to zone out, lay back and ease off things for a bit, especially when things get overwhelming. Because sometimes just a short rest of doing nothing is just the ticket you need to come out of the dark and see a brighter day ahead . With the Delta variant accounting for more than a quarter of Covid-19 cases, there could soon be "two Americas" - one where most people are vaccinated and another where low vaccination rates could lead to case spikes, Dr. Anthony Fauci warned Tuesday, saying that the stark disparity between places with low and high vaccination rates is something he is "very concerned about." US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said Wednesday "I'm concerned about the Delta variant," adding that "And I am worried that what we are seeing in terms of a plateauing of cases nationally but also an increase in cases in many small sections of the United States, that that is, in fact, being driven by the Delta variant." Moderna Inc.’s chairman Noubar Afeyan vowed to keep testing the drugmaker’s vaccine on variants and advised against “putting our guard down” as mutations emerge, saying the new strains stem from “a natural process but it is concerning,” and warning that “We really don’t know where these variants are going to go.” A report published on Wednesday shows transmission within North Carolina schools is low and best mitigated by mask wearing, with researchers at Duke University and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine finding that about 1 in 2,800 K-12 students who were in school buildings became infected during school. US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said Wednesday that policies around masks on planes and public transport aren't expected to change soon and that the agency is leaving it up to states and local health officials to set guidelines around mask-wearing, adding the agency stood by advice that people fully vaccinated against the coronavirus do not need to wear masks in most situations but that there are instances where local authorities might impose more stringent measures to protect the unvaccinated. While children under 12 aren't yet eligible to receive a Covid-19 vaccine, but there is some good news about declining cases as just over 8,400 new cases were reported in children last week – about 10% of all infections, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics' weekly report, the lowest weekly number since May 2020. Doctors are beginning to notice Covid-19 cases that look more like a very bad cold, especially in areas of the country where the highly contagious delta variant is quickly spreading, and while shortness of breath and other lung issues remain among the most worrisome Covid-19 symptoms, it appears upper respiratory complaints - marked by congestion, a runny nose and headache — may be increasing, with doctors saying the virus should not be brushed off as just a cold. Arkansas' COVID-19 vaccine incentive program is not working, the state's governor Asa Hutchinson admitted this week, as less than a month ago, the state began giving lottery tickets and Game & Fish Commission gift certificates away to everyone who received a vaccine, however, the giveaways did little to convince people to get a shot with less than 40% of the state's eligible residents having received the vaccine. A new Axios-Ipsos poll reports that the levels of concern about the new Delta variant are higher among the hyper- aware, and at the same time, around 1 in 7 think they had COVID at some point but never tested. [See SPECIAL – Axios-Ipsos Coronavirus Index] In just the last two weeks, more than 120 of nearly 400 public and private colleges and universities in the US analyzed by NBC News have added vaccination requirements. [See SPECIAL – US College vaccination plans for more insight] The World Health Organization reports that new coronavirus cases in the African region increased by 33 percent over the past week, with covid-19 deaths jumping 42 percent. Cases of COVID-19 may be declining in North America but in most of Latin America and the Caribbean the end to the coronavirus pandemic "remains a distant future", the Pan American Health Organization said on Wednesday, and while infections in the US, Canada and Mexico are falling, in Latin America and the Caribbean cases are rising and vaccination is lagging badly, with only one in ten people fully vaccinated. The United Kingdom recorded a further 26,068 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the highest daily figure since January 29 and sending the seven day-tally up 70% on the week before, official data showed, but despite the surge in new infections, the daily fatality figures have remained in low double digits. 2 Russia, where vaccine uptake remains stubbornly low, reported a record number of covid-related deaths for the second straight day Wednesday, following an unprecedented surge in new cases that officials have blamed on the Delta variant. On Wednesday, France’s leading government scientific adviser Jean-Francois Delfraissy said that the country was likely to suffer a fourth wave of infections caused by the delta variant, which accounts for at least 20 percent of new cases there, but that “it will be much more moderate than the previous three waves because the level of vaccinations is different compared to before.” Health Canada said late on Tuesday it has recommended that people with a history of capillary leak syndrome not be inoculated with drugmaker AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine.
