Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments (SAVE) is here to make sure your intimate relationships are healthy and peaceful. SAVE was founded in 1976 as a grassroots organization by a group of women in the Tri-City area. Their goal was to help victims of domestic violence, when someone close to you is abusive in order to gain power. The abuse can be physical pain, emotional suffering, or stalking by a close family member, friend, or romantic partner. In 1976, there were no shelters to protect a victim of domestic violence. Now, SAVE administers an emergency shelter for domestic violence sur- vivors; a secret address protects residents. “Sometimes the abuser will go looking for them; if they know where they live they can harass them or do worse,” said SAVE Director of Development Paula Manczuk.
