Alumni Athletes in the News 2018-2019 Fall Season ALUMNI ATHLETES IN THE NEWS 2018-2019 FALL SEASON Cydnie Martin CK’17 finished her sophomore season playing defender for the Bowdoin College Polar Bears Field Hockey Team. The Polar Bears tied for 4th in conference play and were 6th seed in the NESCAC Tournament. Bowdoin lost to Williams in the quarterfinals. Last season, Cydnie started in one game for the 10-7 Polar Bears who advanced to the NESCAC Semifinals. Cydnie was an All-State and All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes Field Hockey Team and a varsity letter winner in Track and Field. Joey Files CK’15 completed his senior season playing tight end and special teams for the 8th ranked Michigan Wolverines football team. Joey was named Scout Team Player of the Week for Northwestern and made his playing debut against Western Michigan this fall. Joey also played TE against Nebraska. Joey earned Academic All-Big Ten Honors in 2017 and 2018 and plans to return to play his redshirt senior season. Files was a 3-sport athlete for the Cranes and was an All-State, All-Catholic League, and Academic All- Catholic League captain of the Football Team; All- Catholic League captain of the Basketball Team; and a defenseman on the 2015 State Champion Lacrosse Team. Jalen Allen CK’17 finished his sophomore season playing running back for the Lions of Columbia University. The Lions had their first back to back winning season since 1962. Jalen was an Honorable Mention Academic All-State and Academic All-Catholic League captain of the CK Football Team and was a varsity letterman in Track and Field. Tristan Knoer CK’17 finished his sophomore season at linebacker for the Big Red of Dennison University. Dennison clinched their first North Coast Athletic Conference Football Championship in 32 years and received their first NCAA Playoff berth since 1985! The Big Red drew national powerhouse Mount Union in the first round. Tristan led his team in tackles with 55 (29 solo/26 assists), had 2.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and a pass break up. Last season, Tristan played in all 10 games and was a special teams standout for the 7-3 Big Red recording 9 solo tackles, 7 assisted tackles, one forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery on the season. Tristan was an Academic All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes Football and Baseball teams. Dan Russell CK’17 was redshirted in his sophomore season for the Lords of Kenyon College football team. Last season, Russell had 17 receptions for 189 yards and 3 touchdowns on the season and was their long snapper. Dan was an 11-sport varsity letter winner for the Cranes in Football, Basketball and was a State Qualifier and Regional Champion captain of the CK Track and Field Team. Tim Hauxwell CK’18 was redshirted in his freshman season playing on the offensive line for the 4-6 Huskies of Michigan Tech. Tim was 2nd Team AP All-State, Detroit News Honorable Mention All-State and All-County North, and All-Catholic League for the Cranes District Championship Football Team and Honorable Mention All-State, Honorable Mention All-Metro and All-Catholic League captain of the CHSL Championship Basketball Team. Trevor McConnell CK’18 completed his freshman season playing quarterback for the 5-5 Polar Bears of Ohio Northern. Trevor led the junior varsity offense this season to gain valuable playing experience. Trevor was an AP Honorable Mention All-State, Detroit News Honorable Mention All-State and All- County North, and All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes District Champion Football Team and was a letterman on the CK Baseball Team. Adam Samet CK’18 completed his freshman season playing on the offensive line for the Kenyon Lords. Adam played both offensive and defensive line for the Cranes District Championship Football Team. Pierson Cook CK’18 was redshirted his freshman season as a punter for the Commodores of Vanderbilt. Pierson was a 1st Team All-State, AP Honorable Mention All-State, Detroit News 2nd Team All-State and All-County North, and All-Catholic League kicker for the Cranes District Champion Football Team. Christopher Smith CK’18 finished his freshman season playing defensive tackle for the Crimson of Harvard and had 2 solo tackle, 9 assists and a half sack. Christopher was captain of Cranbrook’s first District Championship Team and was 2-time All-State and 4-time All Catholic League. Smith was also captain for the CK CHSL Championship Basketball Team. Marqis Stokes CK’18 completed his freshman season playing defensive back for the 8-3 Oilers of Findlay. Unfortunately, Marqis sustained a season ending knee injury this season and was redshirted. Stokes was an All-Catholic League and Honorable Mention All-County captain of the District Champion Cranes Football Team and a State Qualifier and Regional Finalist as a sprinter for the Cranes Track and Field Team. Cordelia Chan CK’15 is competing in her senior season for the Ephs of Williams College. Cordelia was chosen to be Captain of the NCAA 8th ranked Ephs Team this season. In the spring season, the Ephs won the Amherst Tournament for the first time in program history smashing records along the way. Cordelia led her team as Medalist of the Tournament. At the NCAA Championships, Cordelia had an amazing four days finishing the tournament as the medalist and NCAA National Champion! The Ephs finished NCAA Runner-Up for the second straight year. The Ephs also won the 2018 NESCAC Championship in the fall. In the fall Mt Holyoke Invitational, Cordelia not only beat her own 18-hole record of 67, she also broke the school 36-hole record (144) set in 2012. Cordelia earned All- NESCAC honors for the fourth consecutive year. Last season, Chan finished as runner-up medalist in all three of the Ephs fall season matches and helped to lead her team to a two-hole playoff for the NCAA Division III National Championship. After four days of play, the Ephs finished National Champion Runner-Up! Cordelia finished 15th overall in the Championships and was named 2nd Team All-American (for the 3rd straight year) and to the All-Region East Team (for the 2nd straight year) and earned All-NESCAC honors for the 3rd straight year and was chosen as the NESCAC Player of the Year. As a sophomore, Cordelia helped the Ephs earn an 8th consecutive NCAA National Tournament berth where she finished 11th to lead her team to a 4th place finish. Cordelia won the Williams Invitational and added three other top-10 finished to earn All-NESCAC 2nd Team honors. Chan finished 10th at the 2016 NESCAC Championship. The Ephs repeated as NESCAC Champions. Cordelia earned 2nd Team All-American honors. In her freshman season, Cordelia and her team set single and two-day records as the Ephs had never shot below 300 as a team to win the Mount Holyoke Invitational. Cordelia had a school record setting second round score of 68 to win the event. The Ephs finished 5th in the NCAA Tournament and Cordelia led her team placing 9th in the Nation. Cordelia was recognized by Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd” for her debut season of competition on the intercollegiate golf scene in NCAA Division III. Cordelia finished the season with a stroke average of 77.70 and was 1st Team All-NECAC, named NECAC Rookie of the Year, earned All-Northeast Region and Honorable Mention All-American Honors. Cordelia was an MHSAA Two-time State Champion and earned Dream Team, All-State, All- County, All-Region, All-Catholic and Academic All-Catholic honors while serving as captain for the State Runner-Up CK Girls Golf Team. Cordelia was also selected to the Catholic League Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Molly Weiner CK’16 is playing golf in her junior season for the Dutchwomen of Union College. Molly led the Dutchwomen in the fall New York University Invitational to finish 21st overall and earned Liberty League All-Academic honors in the fall and spring. This spring the Dutchwomen finished 5th in the Liberty League Championships and Molly led her team shooting 170 to finish 12th overall. Molly had a record setting season for Union with her 84.44 scoring average which is the lowest in school history and earned Honorable Mention All-Liberty League honors. Last season, Union finished 5th in the Liberty League Championships where Molly finished in the top 25 and earned Liberty League All-Academic honors. As a freshman, Molly had the team’s top performances in six events including a 2nd place finish against Vassar and the Dutchwomen finished 4th in the William Smith Invitational backed by a 6th place finish by Molly. Molly was honored as the Dutchwomen Most Valuable Player. Molly was an Honorable Mention All-State, and All- Catholic League captain of the State Runner-Up Cranes Golf Team. Carmen Chan CK’18 is in her freshman season playing golf for Wellesley College. Wellesley earned Liberty League Runner-Up for the first time in program history. Carmen was an All-State, Academic All-State,1st Team All- County, and All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes Golf Team. Dylan Deogun CK’15 is in his senior season playing golf for the Spartans of Michigan State. The Spartans placed 3rd in the Big Ten Championships and earned their 4th consecutive NCAA national Tournament bid. The Spartans finished 7th overall in the Pullman Regional Championships. As a junior, Deogun competed in one event and as a sophomore, Dylan saw action in 8 events and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.

    “To tend goal for the greatest junior team ever” – Ted Tucker, former California Golden Seals and Montreal Junior Canadiens goalie by Nathaniel Oliver - published on August 30, 2016 Three of them won the Stanley Cup. One is in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Arguably three more should be. Six were NHL All-Star selections. Each one of them played professional hockey, whether it was in the NHL, WHA, or in the minors – they all made it to the pro level. And I am fortunate enough to have one of the two goaltenders for the 1968-69 Montreal Junior Canadiens – the team still widely considered the greatest junior hockey team of all time – to be sharing his story with me. Edward (Ted) William Tucker was born May 7th, 1949 in Fort William, Ontario. From his earliest moments of playing street hockey or shinny, Ted Tucker wanted to be a goaltender. Beginning to play organized hockey at the age of nine, there was minimal opportunity to start the game at a younger age. “At the time that I started playing hockey, there were no Tom Thumb, Mites, or Squirts programs in my hometown. There was a small ad in our local newspaper from the Elks organization, looking for players and asking which position you preferred to play. I asked my parents if I could sign up, and right from the get-go I wanted to be a goalie”. As a youngster, Tucker’s play between the pipes would take some time to develop, though improvement took place each year as he played.
