What a year it has been! I can’t begin thank the NA3HL teams enough for the way they have handled and navigated through this season. The fact that we made it through a full regular season and playoffs in all five divisions is a testament to how invested everyone was to making sure our players could compete and develop. As a result, we now get to celebrate this weekend with two great events in one location, the Fraser Cup and the NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament. While this season has been unique and one of the most challenging in our history, this weekend provides us with an opportunity to showcase our players, our teams, and our league. This weekend is also a bittersweet for all of us in the NAHL and NA3HL office, because we remember our long-time staff member Fraser Ritchie with the awarding of the Fraser Cup.

    ALUMNI ATHLETES IN THE NEWS 2018-2019 FALL SEASON Cydnie Martin CK’17 finished her sophomore season playing defender for the Bowdoin College Polar Bears Field Hockey Team. The Polar Bears tied for 4th in conference play and were 6th seed in the NESCAC Tournament. Bowdoin lost to Williams in the quarterfinals. Last season, Cydnie started in one game for the 10-7 Polar Bears who advanced to the NESCAC Semifinals. Cydnie was an All-State and All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes Field Hockey Team and a varsity letter winner in Track and Field. Joey Files CK’15 completed his senior season playing tight end and special teams for the 8th ranked Michigan Wolverines football team. Joey was named Scout Team Player of the Week for Northwestern and made his playing debut against Western Michigan this fall. Joey also played TE against Nebraska. Joey earned Academic All-Big Ten Honors in 2017 and 2018 and plans to return to play his redshirt senior season. Files was a 3-sport athlete for the Cranes and was an All-State, All-Catholic League, and Academic All- Catholic League captain of the Football Team; All- Catholic League captain of the Basketball Team; and a defenseman on the 2015 State Champion Lacrosse Team. Jalen Allen CK’17 finished his sophomore season playing running back for the Lions of Columbia University. The Lions had their first back to back winning season since 1962. Jalen was an Honorable Mention Academic All-State and Academic All-Catholic League captain of the CK Football Team and was a varsity letterman in Track and Field.

    ALUMNI ATHLETES IN THE NEWS 2019-2020 FALL SEASON Cydnie Martin CK’17 is in her senior season playing defender for the Bowdoin College Polar Bears Field Hockey Team. Unfortunately, the season was suspended due to COVID. Last season, Bowdoin earned the two seed in the NESCAC Tournament. The Polar Bears were upset in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Championships. Cydnie played in 6 games. In 2018, Cydnie played in all 11 games with four starts and had 1 save. As a freshman, Cydnie splayed in 3 games and started in one game for the 10-7 Polar Bears who advanced to the NESCAC Semifinals. Cydnie was an All-State and All-Catholic League captain of the Cranes Field Hockey Team and a varsity letter winner in Track and Field. Joey Files CK’15 completed his college football career playing tight end and special teams for the 17th ranked Michigan Wolverines football team. Joey earned Academic All-Big Ten for the 3rd straight year and at the Team Banquet received the Bob Ufer Award for Leadership! The Wolverines played the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Citrus Bowl. Last season, Joey was named Scout Team Player of the Week for Northwestern and earned playing time against Western Michigan and Nebraska. Joey earned Academic All-Big Ten Honors in 2017 and 2018. Files was a 3-sport athlete for the Cranes and was an All-State, All-Catholic League, and Academic All-Catholic League captain of the Football Team; All-Catholic League captain of the Basketball Team; and a defenseman on the 2015 State Champion Lacrosse Team.

Black Bear Sports Group, Inc. (“Black Bear”) is a Maryland-based corporation involved in the development, lease, acquisition, and operation of multi-purpose recreation and entertainment facilities (including but not limited to facilities that operate ice rinks, turf fields, and other sport-surfaces) in the United States. Black Bear currently owns 14 arenas and leases one additional facility (see chart on page 2). Black Bear also owns and/or manages seven youth hockey clubs, owns three junior hockey (ages 16-21) franchises (the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League, the Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League, and Team Maryland of the Eastern Hockey League). Black Bear owns a youth hockey tournament company called Defender Hockey Tournaments and an affiliate of Black Bear owns a second tournament company, SuperSeries AAA which is one of the leading hockey tournament companies in North America. Combined, Defender and SuperSeries host 25 multiple youth hockey tournaments and showcases hosting over 10,000 youth hockey players including approximately 10 tournaments annually in Black Bear’s Arenas. Black Bear Sports Group is the largest owner and operator of ice rinks in the United States with 15 ice rinks and 27 sheets of ice. Four years ago, we took over and completely renovated and restored the almost 30-year old Piney Orchard Ice Arena (Odenton, MD) from what had become a dilapidated, depressing operation.
