apexlearningvs.com LETTER FROM THE NAHL COMMISSIONER

I would like to welcome all of you to the 2021 North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) Fraser Cup Championship and Prospects Tournament.

What a year it has been! I can’t begin thank the NA3HL teams enough for the way they have handled and navigated through this season. The fact that we made it through a full regular season and playoffs in all five divisions is a testament to how invested everyone was to making sure our players could compete and develop.

As a result, we now get to celebrate this weekend with two great events in one location, the Fraser Cup and the NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament. While this season has been unique and one of the most challenging in our history, this weekend provides us with an opportunity to showcase our players, our teams, and our league.

This weekend is also a bittersweet for all of us in the NAHL and NA3HL office, because we remember our long-time staff member Fraser Ritchie with the awarding of the Fraser Cup. Back in 2017, the NA3HL Championship trophy was renamed the Fraser Cup in memory of Fraser Ritchie, a long-time and dedicated staff member of the NAHL, NA3HL and NAPHL. Fraser lost his battle with cancer and passed away on June 10, 2017, but his influence and daily interactions with all of the owners, coaches, staff, volunteers and administrators in our three leagues will never be forgotten and are remembered each season with the awarding of the Fraser Cup.

It is such an opportune and wonderful time to be involved and playing in the NA3HL. This season saw continued exposure initiatives that were put in place several years ago designed for NA3HL players to advance to the NAHL and beyond. These initiatives have increased the advancement numbers and provided an additional development path for those players in the NA3HL. The NA3HL enjoys all the same events that the NAHL does and has great owners and coaches. We all share in the common mission of creating an enhanced level of play and competition that is focused on a player’s development and advancement.

As a result, this season has been another incredible year for the NA3HL in terms of skill level, competition, and player advancement. Over 50 former NA3HL players are currently playing in the NAHL, and 16 more have signed NAHL tenders for next season. No other Tier III junior league advances more players to the NAHL than the NA3HL. In addition, we saw seven former NA3HL players make NCAA Division I commitments in 2020 and to date there have been close to 40 NCAA commitments out of the NA3HL so far during the 2020-21 season.

We will continue in our mission to provide more places for players to play and coaches to coach, than any other hockey property in the country, which truly defines the North as the League of Opportunity. The more players and parents can learn who we are and what we are about, the more people desire to be part of who we are and the difference we make in these young men’s lives.

We hope you enjoy this weekend. Give it everything you have and thank you again for your support of the NA3HL, a Step Above the Rest!

The five divisional playoff champions and one wild-card 2005 St. Louis Jr. Blues team will advance to the NA3HL Fraser Cup Championship Tournament, 2004 St. Louis Jr. Blues where they will play a two-game round robin format followed by a semi-final 2003 St. Louis Jr. Blues and a championship game. The five divisional playoff winners and wild-card 2002 Metro Jets team will be seeded 1-6 based on their regular season point totals. 2001 Metro Jets 2000 St. Louis Jr. Blues The Fraser Cup is awarded to the national playoff champion of the NA3HL. 1999 Toledo Cherokee Formerly known as the Silver Cup, the NA3HL renamed the trophy the 1998 Motor City Chiefs Fraser Cup back on September 11, 2017. The Fraser Cup is named after 1997 Toledo Cherokee Robert ‘Fraser’ Ritchie, a long-time staff member of the NAHL, NA3HL and 1996 Motor City Chiefs NAPHL. 1995 Toledo Cherokee 1994 St. Louis Jr. Blues On June 10, 2017, Ritchie passed away peacefully with family at his side 1993 Wayne Chiefs after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Although Ritchie ultimately 1992 Downriver Blades lost his battle with the disease, his influence and daily interactions with all 1991 Wayne Chiefs of the owners, coaches, staff, volunteers and administrators in the NAHL, 1990 Metro Jets NA3HL and NAPHL, will never be forgotten. 1989 Lytes Rustlers 1988 St. Louis Jr. Blues “Fraser had a special place in his heart for the mission of the NA3HL and its most importantly, its players, so when we approached the idea of memorializing him with the renaming of the Championship trophy with the NA3HL leadership and the Ritchie family, they were unanimous in their support. We all felt honoring his memory in this was a way to remind people of his influence on the NA3HL,” said NAHL Commissioner and President Mark Frankenfeld.

Now in its 11th season, the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), a USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier III Junior league, serves as one of the top training grounds in the country by providing the best coaching, exposure and developmental vehicles available for student-athletes in its classification. The primary mission of the NA3HL, which is managed organizationally by the North American Hockey League (NAHL), is to provide a structured developmental environment for student-athletes whose NA3HL.COM/FRASER-CUP youth options are limited but are still reaching their potential and have aspirations of playing in the NAHL or United States Hockey League and eventually the NCAA or American College Hockey Association. #1 SHERIDAN HAWKS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between the NAHL Supplemental and Entry Drafts? In 2021, the NAHL will have a Supplemental Draft, which will be held on Wednesday, June 2nd, while the NAHL Entry Draft will be held on Wednesday, July 14th. Both Drafts will be broadcast live on HockeyTV and be done online at nahldraft.com.

The NAHL Supplemental Draft is scheduled for June 2nd at 1pm (central). Each NAHL team will receive three picks in the Supplemental Draft. The draft order will be determined by the order of the NAHL Entry Draft.

The NAHL Entry Draft has been scheduled for July 14th at 1pm (central). Traditionally, NAHL Teams utilize a mix of in-season evaluation along with team tryout camps and NAHL Combine to select players in the Entry Draft. The Entry Draft order will remain unaffected by the implementation of the Supplemental Draft. Prior to the Entry Draft, NAHL teams will turn in their protected list of tenders and veterans in order to determine the number of picks they will have in the Entry Draft.

Who is eligible for the drafts? Amateur players less than 21 years of age on December 31, 2021 who are not listed on an NAHL/ NA3HL team roster, or are listed on an NAHL/NA3HL team roster but played less than (10) NA3HL regular season and/or playoff games during the 2020-21 season and did not accept a tender from an NAHL/NA3HL team prior to the draft date(s), are eligible for selection in the drafts ALL STREAMING LIVE ON Do prospective players have to register for the drafts? No, there is no registration process to be eligible for the NAHL or NA3HL drafts

Are drafted players eligible to try out for other teams? Unless agreed upon in writing by the two NAHL/NA3HL teams, tendered or drafted players are not eligible to try out for other teams in the respective league.

Are drafted players eligible to try out for teams in other junior leagues? Yes, all tendered and drafted players are eligible to try out for any team in any league other than the NAHL/NA3HL in the U.S. and Canada.

What if a prospective player is not drafted, but is still interested in playing the NAHL/NA3HL? Players not drafted but who still want to play in the NAHL or NA3HL are encouraged to attend individual teams’ open tryout camps.
