Sheffield Steelers 2020 Sheffield Steelers vs Belfast Giants - Ice Hockey Match Sunday 23rd February 2020 Dear Parents/Guardians, Sheffield Steelers have invited our group to support them as they take on the Belfast Giants at Sheffield Arena on Sunday 23rd February. The ice hockey event is from 16:00 and is expected to be done by 19:00. This is a family event, therefore meaning it is open not only to the young people and adult volunteers, but families and friends too. Entrance with the group will be free for all young people and siblings aged under 18. Adult volunteers (registered with the group) are also free of charge. Parents and other adults can attend at a discounted rate of £10 per person. (Payable in advance – details below). Please note: Any young people attending will need a responsible adult present at the event. We will not have enough adult volunteers to cover the necessary scouting ratios of adults to young people. This doesn’t mean 1:1 child to adult; simply that the group will not be taking responsibility for the young people attending. Places are considered firm after selecting “yes” to the Online Scout Manager invitation. This is particularly important given adult places have to be paid for in advance - even if your adult places drop out, the monies are still due. If you have more than one young person in the group, you will have received this email several times given it has been sent by youth section. Please only respond to one of the invitations given that you can indicate your party size after you’ve followed the invitation link. Adult monies should be paid to only the following account by bank transfer: Sort code: 54-21-34 Account number: 27665070 Reference: Your child’s initial and surname (e.g. LSYKES) Last date to be able to book on will be Monday, 17th February @ 20:00hrs. Contact If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Clint Malarchuk did that job while suffering high anxiety, depression, and obsessive compulsive disorder and had his career nearly literally cut short by a skate across his neck, to date the most gruesome injury hockey has ever seen. This autobiography takes readers deep into the troubled mind of Clint Malarchuk, the former NHL goaltender for the Quebec Nordiques, the Washington Capitals, and the Buffalo Sabres. But posting a few pictures of a star player on Twitter or Instagramming a hastily cobbled together highlights reel from last night’s match just won’t cut it. Fans want richer, more “ engaging content that makes them feel a deeper connection to the “ club they follow and the sport they love. 3 And clubs have an opportunity to capitalise on their social media followings to drive more fans to matches, sign them up to membership packages and boost commercial revenues by having them buy the latest kit and merchandise. The opening is there for clubs to better engage with and capitalise on their followers, but where some are hitting the back of the net with ease, many more are missing an open goal by miles. (Feel free to substitute your own clichés in that last sentence based on your preferred sport). To see who’s making the most of social media and using it as a channel to truly engage fans and followers, we looked at the Instagram, Facebook and Twitter profiles of 80 professional sports clubs across the UK and Ireland.

  • Our Heroes Deserve Life Long Recognition It's About Paying Tribute to the People Who Did So Much for Hockey
Publisher: International Ice Hockey Federation, Editor-in-Chief: Jan-Ake Edvinsson Editors: Kimmo Leinonen and Szymon Szemberg, Layout: Szymon Szemberg, Photos: IIHF Archives, Jukka Rautio, City Press November 2002 - Vol. 6 - No 5 Our heroes deserve life long recognition It's about paying tribute to the people who did so much for hockey. That’s why the IIHF Hall of Fame program is so important. We tend to forget our former greats, at least in Europe. On September 26, the IIHF announced the eight former international hockey greats who will be inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame during the 2003 World Championship in Finland. (See pages 2, 6 - 7). The IIHF Hall of Fame was introduced in 1997. Since then, 119 former heroes from 20 countries have been inducted. II The recently concluded 30 year anniversary of the historic 1972 Summit Series between the Soviet Union and Team Canada once again showed what a difference there is between North America and Europe when it comes to paying tribute to former heroes of the game. All of Team Canada’s players, most of them in their mid fifties or sixties, are still revered by the fans who remem- ber not only the stars but also the role players. Most of the players seem well off, at least they don't seem to suffer financially. Once a champ, always a champ. This is the way it should be. It's different in Russia. When I was in Moscow some weeks ago for the Russian 30 year anniversary I had the privilege to meet some of the former Soviet greats who have fared very well; goaltender superstar Vladislav Tretiak and newly inducted IIHF Hall of Famer Aleksander Yakushev.
