  • Staff 'Face Misery' As Sheffield City Trust Plan to Axe Hundreds More Jobs
Staff 'face misery’ as Sheffield City Trust plan to axe hundreds more jobs 01 Sep 2020 Union says lowest-paid staff shoulder the biggest burden of ‘unfair’ proposals after 79 redundancies at Sheffield Arena and Sheffield City Hall GMB union says a further 200 jobs are at risk at Sheffield City Trust under unfair proposals which have already seen 79 redundancy formal notices issued in the city. Redundancy notices have already been issued across the Trust - including 38 at Sheffield Arena and 41 at Sheffield City Hall. Further plans see more than 200 jobs at risk at sports and leisure venues including Ponds Forge, Ice Sheffield and leisure centres across the city. GMB said it was unfair that the lowest-paid staff were being targeted for redundancy. Only one senior Head of Service post has been subject to “at risk” status. Those staff put on notice could be put at a disadvantage for any potential redeployment across the business after the option to consult with unions across all affected workplaces was not taken up by the Trust, the union warned, adding to calls to extend the consultation period. Sheffield City Trust had informed GMB that they do not have any money in reserves, despite Sheffield City Council making a £15m subsidy available to the Trust just last month. GMB will now campaign along with Sheffield Trades Council and community groups to protect jobs and ensure that the venues open safely for the public to use. Lee Parkinson, GMB Organiser said: “The business model used by Sheffield City Trust has failed our members and the residents of Sheffield.

INDEPENDENT PUBLISHERS GROUP A Matter of Inches How I Survived in the Crease and Beyond Clint Malarchuk, Dan Robson Summary No job in the world of sports is as intimidating, exhilarating, and stressridden as that of a hockey goaltender. Clint Malarchuk did that job while suffering high anxiety, depression, and obsessive compulsive disorder and had his career nearly literally cut short by a skate across his neck, to date the most gruesome injury hockey has ever seen. • Sheffield Steelers 2020
Sheffield Steelers vs Belfast Giants - Ice Hockey Match Sunday 23rd February 2020 Dear Parents/Guardians, Sheffield Steelers have invited our group to support them as they take on the Belfast Giants at Sheffield Arena on Sunday 23rd February. The ice hockey event is from 16:00 and is expected to be done by 19:00. This is a family event, therefore meaning it is open not only to the young people and adult volunteers, but families and friends too. Entrance with the group will be free for all young people and siblings aged under 18. Adult volunteers (registered with the group) are also free of charge. Parents and other adults can attend at a discounted rate of £10 per person. (Payable in advance – details below). Please note: Any young people attending will need a responsible adult present at the event. We will not have enough adult volunteers to cover the necessary scouting ratios of adults to young people. This doesn’t mean 1:1 child to adult; simply that the group will not be taking responsibility for the young people attending. Places are considered firm after selecting “yes” to the Online Scout Manager invitation. This is particularly important given adult places have to be paid for in advance - even if your adult places drop out, the monies are still due. If you have more than one young person in the group, you will have received this email several times given it has been sent by youth section. Please only respond to one of the invitations given that you can indicate your party size after you’ve followed the invitation link.

  • 41St Research Students' Conference in Probability and Statistics
41st Research Students' Conference in Probability and Statistics Conference Proceedings 24th-27th July 2018 Dear Delegate, Welcome to the Research Students' Conference (RSC) in Probability and Statistics 2018 in Sheffield. This is the 41st RSC and we, at the University of Sheffield, are very excited to host this great event. The RSC is a large annual conference hosted by PhD students for PhD students. Typically the RSC considers all areas of Probability and Statistics, however this year we are excited to announce that we have expanded our delegation to include students from Biology, Health and Computer Sciences. As a student conference, RSC provides a friendly, and relaxed environment to discuss and exchange ideas. It is our hope that you will not only walk away from this years RSC with brilliant thoughts but also also new experiences, new contacts and perhaps life-long friendships. For many of you this will be your first time in Sheffield and we strongly recommend taking time to explore this vibrant and ever evolving city. Formerly an industrial hub, Sheffield has blossomed into a multicultural and modern city and is home to a range of `hipster' coffee shops, several award winning breweries and of course tourist hotspots like the home of snooker (The Crucible) and the Peak Distinct. We hope all of you take this opportunity to meet your fellow students, converse and come to love this fantastic part of South Yorkshire. In this booklet you will find all the information about the RSC this year, from the conference programme, talks schedule, social events to details on your accommodation in the Endcliffe stu- dent village.
