Vittorio Fossombroni and Neri Corsini in Tuscany' and Prospero Balbo in Piedmont2 are the outstanding examples in the years immediately follow- ing the Vienna settlement. The political survival of these men into a Europe dominated by violent reaction against the events of the preceding twenty years poses interesting questions.
