Cpga Weekly Update CPGA WEEKLY UPDATE No 15 – 2017 SAFETY QUICK REFERENCE As the season has now started and with the lighter evenings, remember that the general public are watching. Safety is down to the club, guidance is • Safety - issued but you, as a club, need to act in the most responsible way for all, not reminder only for your club members but the general public as well. • Disks for CPGA The CPGA do receive emails from the general public expressing concern, so do consider all factors when launching / training / recovery and your events. Gigs • Note from IOS There will be an update on Safety during this month as the CPGA adopt British Rowing – RowSafe, but in the meantime act responsibly. Steamship Group and D&C DISKS FOR CPGA GIGS Police Within the next twelve months the CPGA gig register will reach the milestone of its 200th gig, the most recently launched gig is No 197 – Morah • CIAB built by D Currah for Coverack. • 2018 Scillies Certificates used to be issued for all CPGA registered gigs, but with changes • Shipping Times of ownership, changes of committee etc within clubs, these have not always been passed on and so the disk aims to identify the boat for all and prove that it is a genuine Cornish Pilot Gig. The disks are going to be attached to as many gigs as possible while the boats are in the Scillies. This task is being undertaken by Brian Nobbs (boatbuilder) assisted by Justin Harmer. The disk is a stainless steel ‘tag’ individually engraved with CPGA and the unique number to the boat. They will be screwed to the stern post. We would therefore ask permission from all clubs to do this while there is the opportunity. It will be assumed that unless anything is heard from the club, the consent is given. For any gigs not on the islands, clubs will be contacted later. Tap here to add a caption www.cpga.co.uk Charity Number - 1166613 1 IOS STEAMSHIP GROUP AND DEVON AND CORNWALL POLICE - MESSAGE This is a message from the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group working with Devon and Cornwall Police. We are sure you will have a wonderful visit to the magical Isles of Scilly and to those of you that are travelling to the Islands for the World Pilot Gig Championships Weekend, a special welcome. So that visitors, competitors and spectators and the Island communities can enjoy this event safely we will not be allowing drunken and disorderly passengers to board the Scillonian III either at Penzance or St Mary’s Quays. If you are refused passage either on St Mary’s Quay or Penzance Quay because of your behaviour, the costs of return transport and accommodation are yours. The cost to your reputation and that of your Gig Club is most definitely yours. Please help us to make this a successful and safe event for visitors and Islanders and everyone travelling on board RMV Scillonian III. CIAB Following the launch of Seven Stars in February 2017, she can now be found at her home for the coming twelve (12) months – the River Thames - Richmond. She has been welcome by the London Cornish Pilot Gig Club and will prove an asset in the coming months as more people are able to access the sport of rowing. The second GRP is going to be located at TMSC Rowers for two (2) years and is now on the blocks, so she will soon take to the waters of the South West and allow more people to experience the sport of gig rowing. SCILLIES 2018 Following the resignation of Chairman Rick Persich in February the Gig Committee appealed to the residents of Scilly for additional volunteers to help with the organisation of the event. The appeal has proved to be a success and interim Chairman Kevin Sherris said “I am delighted with the offers of help that have come forward and we are currently slotting the new volunteers into their roles for the event later this month and then we will have a ‘wash-up’ meeting after the champs and elect a new Chairman for the 2018 competition” Kevin was the previous Chairman before Rick took the reins some ten years ago and indeed has been the Vice Chair during Ricks time and was therefore the natural choice to cover this year’s event, Kevin went on to say “I am looking forward to this year’s racing but due to business and family commitments I’m sadly not able to become the Chairman moving forward. Rick was an outstanding Chairman and I totally understand his decision to step down to enable him to have more time to enjoy the Islands’ and get out fishing!” The 2018 event will start with the Vets races on Friday 4th May 2018 with the finals on Sunday 6th May 2018. www.cpga.co.uk Charity Number - 1166613 2 SHIPPING TIMES WEEK BEGINNING 17TH APRIL Received from the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company. • The Transfer and Final Disposal of Residual Waste and Recycling Arising from the Isles of Scilly 2021-2024
Information Classification: CONTROLLED The Transfer and Final Disposal of Residual Waste and Recycling Arising from the Isles of Scilly 2021-2024 Supporting Information for the Prior Information Notice November 2020 Information Classification: CONTROLLED LOCATION The Council of the Isles of Scilly is unique in terms of its geographical location, its constitution, history and community and the broad range of services that it delivers. Situated 28 nautical miles south west of Lands-End, Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly consists of 5 inhabited islands, with an approximate total population of 2,203 (2011 census). The majority of residents live on St Mary’s, the biggest of the islands, with resident populations on 4 of the off-islands of St Agnes, Bryher, Tresco and St Martin’s. The population remains stable but is aging rapidly as the young leave for the mainland in pursuit of further education, jobs and homes and the elderly retire to the islands. Issues of access and social exclusion are acutely felt here. The exceptional quality of the islands environment reflects its designation as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Conservation Area and Heritage Coast. The Conservation Area and the AONB boundaries are coincidental and cover the entire archipelago. The economy of the islands is dominated by tourism and agriculture which leads to seasonal fluctuations in both population and waste and recycling production. Additional general information about The Council of the Isles of Scilly can be found on the Council’s website www.scilly.gov.uk THE COUNCIL OF THE ISLES OF SCILLY The Council of the Isles of Scilly is the most south west unitary local government authority in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions about Visiting the Isles of Scilly in relation to COVID19 We are delighted to welcome you to the Isles of Scilly and hope you have a lovely holiday experiencing our glorious beaches, clear blue water and excellent hospitality. We are a small island community, with limited infrastructure and health care services. Excellent as they are, there are only a few of us running them, so we need to make sure we protect our key workers for the benefit of both you and our local community. We understand that you are keen to have a holiday but please remember your individual responsibility to keep yourself and others safe whilst staying with us on Scilly. Please find some information below from the Council of the Isles of Scilly and our public health colleagues in response to frequently asked questions. If you have any queries please email [email protected] What should I think about when visiting the islands? Please consider the following; Travel by private transport on your mainland leg of the journey avoiding public transport. If you need to be evacuated, you will not be able to return home on public transport from Penzance. Travel accommodation providers will be asking you to carry your own luggage, so you might want to consider bringing more smaller items of luggage rather than one big heavy suitcase. Bring a face covering/mask - these are now mandatory on Skybus, Scillonian III and Penzance Helicopters, shuttle buses & boats. Bring some hand sanitiser, there will also be some hand sanitiser stations across the islands.

Green g radar reflector Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of on pole Fl.G.4s. this supplement. However, it contains selected information and thus is not definitive and does not include all known information on the subject in hand. The authors, the RCC Pilotage Foundation and Imray Laurie Norie & Wilson Ltd believe this supplement to be a useful aid to prudent navigation, but the safety of a vessel depends ultimately on the judgement of the navigator, who should assess all information, published or unpublished, available to him/her. With the increasing precision of modern position-fixing methods, allowance must be made for inaccuracies in latitude and longitude on many charts, inevitably perpetuated on some harbour plans. Modern surveys specify which datum is used together with correction figures if required, but older editions should be used with caution, particularly in restricted visibility. This supplement is cumulative and the latest information is marked in blue . After finally enjoying a proper Scillonian summer in 2013, we are delighted to see that the long range forecast for 2014 is predicting much of the same. Scillies survived the winter storms but did not escape them and the optimists among us feel that we have seen enough bad weather for one year, at least we have suf- fered it at the right time and predictions suggest we will see a re- turn to more defined seasons. Certainly the spring, so far, has been quite encouraging with a wonderful late April and early May, including the World Gig Championship, which again concluded without a hitch and in glorious conditions. The event was bigger again and cemented its place as the premier event in the Scillonian calendar.
