We know that belief in the Holy Trinity is essential to our faith and that it takes faith to believe in it. In our Gospel reading, Jesus speaks of the intimacy he shares with the Father and Holy Spirit, giving us a glimpse into the mystery of the Holy Trinity, the feast that we celebrate today. Many times during the day we start our prayers with “In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” While saying that, we bless ourselves in the shape of the cross. These two things are reminders of our faith, and if we use Holy Water as we come into Church, we add a third dimension. Quite obviously, by saying the words, we profess that our God is one in three. By blessing ourselves with those words, we are declaring that it is through the Cross of Christ that we have been saved. Then when we add the element of Holy Water while saying the words, it reminds us that it is through the saving waters of Baptism that we find ourselves in a personal relationship with Jesus. What a simple symbol but what a powerful impact it generates! Celebrate the feast today with those thoughts. As our thoughts turn to summer and summer vacations and outings, let us not forget the importance of attending Mass on Sunday - wherever we may be. Mass is the one thing we should not take a vacation from. So as we plan our summer, we must make attending Mass a priority, as well as all the other preparations. Remember - Jesus is the reason for Sunday. God Bless, Fr.
