Limited for the project “Drilling Activities in Kalat Block (2866-2), Balochistan” proposed by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) with an objective to explore the hydrocarbon reservoirs underlying the area. The proposed Wells are located in the mid of Kalat Block in Kalat district of Balochistan province. Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) is pioneer of the natural gas industry in the country, has been a frontline player in the energy sector since the mid-1950s. As a major supplier of natural gas, PPL today contributes over 20 percent of the country’s total natural gas supplies besides producing crude oil, Natural Gas Liquid and Liquefied Petroleum Gas. PPL plans to drill Wells in the middle of Kalat Block (Kalat Block has area of 1733 sq. km) which was granted by the Government of Pakistan for the extraction of oil and gas, located in District Kalat and Khuzdar, in non-protected and uninhibited area. The main objectives of the exploratory drilling are as follows; To drill and evaluate hydrocarbons prospects safely without putting significant impact on the environment. To plan for the future production of oil and gas from the area. Table ES-1: Details of the Exploratory Drilling Well in Kalat Block (2866-2) Well Name Latitude Longitude Kalat X-3 28°36'6.86"N, 66°36'28.20"E Kalat X-4 28°37'57.62"N 66°37'10.57"E Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) of the project has been carried out in compliance with the mandatory requirement of Section 15(1) of Balochistan Environmental Protection Act (BEPA), 2012 which requires that: “No proponent of a project shall commence construction or operation unless he has filed with the Agency an initial environmental examination or environmental impact assessment, and has obtained from the Agency approval in respect thereof.” Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Review of IEE and EIA) Regulations, 2000, accordingly categorizes the proposed project in Schedule 1, requiring an Initial Environmental Examination. The tentative duration of key activities is provided below: Table ES-2: Expected Schedule of Drilling Activities Activities Duration Mobilization 15 days Civil works 4-5 months Drilling 4-5 months Testing and demobilization 1-2 months The potential environmental and socioeconomic impacts related to the proposed project have been identified through literature review, scrutinizing baseline data (both primary and secondary), professional opinions, experience, understanding of the proposed project activities, field observations and site surveys. The risks then identified have been addressed by recommendations of various mitigation measures to EMC Pakistan Private Limited Page | iii Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) Drilling Activities in Kalat Block 2866-2, Balochistan reduce the severity of each impact. Assessment of the identified impacts was validated using the information obtained through site surveys. The experts engaged for the IEE study visited the project area to gather information on the environmental and social characteristics of the project area. The proponent shall oversee the entire activities with an objective to ensure environmental protection. The mitigation matrix for the drilling activities has been included in the section 5 of this report. The EMP has been prepared in accordance to national and international environmental management guidelines that will be used as a contract document for the contractor(s) and their personnel during the project activities. Several aspects have been identified in this EMP to prevent or mitigate that environmental impact of proposed Drilling Activities of Well Kalat X-3 and X-4 in Kalat Block (2866- 2). The IEE concludes that the proposed activities will not lead to significant adverse environmental impacts and careful implementation of the EMP will ensure that potential impacts are managed and minimized and the project proponents meet all statutory requirements. The present environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) study of the Promoting Girls Education in Balochistan (PGEB) project has been carried out in compliance with the national environmental laws of Pakistan and the World Bank Operational Policies (OPs). The ESIA delineates the environmental and social issues emerging from the PGEB project, identifies the potentially adverse environmental and social impacts of the project activities, and suggests appropriate mitigation measures to offset or reduce these impacts. The report also suggests guidelines for environmental enhancement opportunities available during various phases of project implementation to maximize the benefit to environment. The mitigation measures and guidelines have been organized in the form of an environmental and social management plan (ESMP) to be implemented by the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the PGEB project for avoiding or mitigating the significant environment and social impacts. 2. The scope of the study entails assessment of the environmental and social impacts of PGEB project activities in the selected 12 districts of the province including Kachhi, Loralai, Jhal Magsi, Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbela, Jaferabad, Kech, Panjgur, Kila Saifullah, Pishin and Naseerabad districts. The project area spreads over from north to south of the province covering almost 138,011 square kilometers (40%) area of the province. The environmental and social assessment covers physical, biological and social impacts of project activities during various implementation stages from site selection and designing to construction and operational phase of the school buildings.

Abstract: Present study was carried out in order to evaluate the chemical changes in the grape varieties i.e. Kishmishi, Sandokhani, Sahibi and Haita, which were grown in grape areas of the Balochistan province. The results reveal that best fruit quality on the basis of biochemical analysis was observed in Kishmishi and Sandokhani varieties in Quetta district. While Sahibi and Haita variety were the best varieties in Pishin district. Averaging best quality data were observed in Mastung district, while lowest quality fruits were observed in Kalat district.
