REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

2.1 History of Simalungun People

Banua Holing (India Island). Based on Simalungun spoken hereditary source,

According to U. HAMDAR (Drs.Urich H.Damanik), Simalungun derived from the word: Si-ma-Lungun, which is etymologically that Si is the word indicator, Ma is the prefix, Lungun is meaning silent or longing

According to T.B.A. The meaning of Simou is between visible and invisible to light, but there is light. Lungun is sunyi atau lengang, karena wilayah itu dulunya adalah terdiri dari hutan belantara yang sunyi dimana penduduknya hampir tidak kelihatan. The meaning of Lungun is silent or lone, because the area used to consist of a desolate wilderness where the population is not visible.

This coming was divided into two phases. The first phases called as “

Simalungun naparlobei” (Proto Simalungun) or old Simalungun. They arrived to

The East Sumatera or region of Simalungun. Before that, They had passed Assam region in The East India, through Birma or Myanmar.Next, They went to Siam region and Malaka. Then, They accrosed to East Sumatera in and founded the Kingdom of Nagur from the King of the Damanik dynasty.

The formation of Simalungun, in the Kingdom of Nagur, there are several commanders (King Goraha), each of the clan: Saragih, Sinaga, Purba, then they were made to be in the son-in-law of King Nagur and subsequently established

Kingdoms: Silou (Ancient Tambak), Tanoh Djawa (Sinaga), Raya (SARAGIH) .

During the 13th to 15th centuries, these small kingdoms were attacked by other kingdoms such as Singasari, Majapahit, Rajendra Chola (India) and from the

Sultan of Aceh, the Malay sultans to the Netherlands. During this period, the story of Hattu Ni Sapar depicts the horror of the situation at that time of chaos and followed by the rampant cholera disease so that they cross the Freshwater sea (a designation for Lake Toba) to evacuate to The island called Samosir is the abbreviation of Sahali Misir (Simalungun language, meaning once left). When the refugees returned to their home land (Huta Hasusuran), they found the quiet area of Nagur, so that the dynamism of the Kingdom of Nagur was as Sima-Sima ni
