1. Resumption of the session

The sitting opened at 17.05.

2. Approval of the minutes of the previous sitting

Werner Langen had been present but his name did not appear on the attendance register.

The minutes of the previous sitting were approved.

3. Statements by the President

The President expressed Parliament’s support for recent developments in Egypt and called on the governments in the region to open up to dialogue with their citizens, to stop harassing peaceful demon­ strators and to abolish the state of emergency. He called for the European Union to show solidarity with these countries.

He affirmed the need for the European Union to come to the assistance of countries faced with an influx of migrants.

He said that 12 February 2011 had been the International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers and recalled Parliament’s commitment to this cause.

Finally, he reported that in Iran, many executions had been carried out since the beginning of the year, and he called on the Iranian government to impose a moratorium on the death penalty before eventually abolishing it. 2.6.2011 EN Official Journal of the European Union C 164 E/3
