Adoption of the draft agenda The agenda was adopted. 2. Adoption of the minutes of 19 March 2013 The minutes were adopted. 3. Announcements by the Chair The Chair made the following points: 1) Conference of Delegation Chairs I would like to report back to Members on the last Conference of Delegation Chairs meeting which was held in Strasbourg last week. It is concerning to note the increasing number of decisions which are being taken by the Secretary General without debate. The most recent is on the availability of interpreters for delegation meetings which have been allocated Thursday afternoons as a viable time. Unfortunately, as we are well aware, most Members need to return to their national constituencies by Thursday afternoons, so this is not a viable option for the delegation. This is a concerning development as it limits the participation of Members and staff who rely on the interpreters services. Ongoing issues remain regarding the budget and travel allowance for delegations, and the fact that this does not adequately take into account multi-country delegations or those with PV\935068EN.doc PE510.439v01-00 EN United in diversity EN countries who cannot easily conduct visits to Brussels. This is possibly something Members could discuss with their Group Presidents, and I will continue to follow up within the Conference of Delegation Chairs.

    The Week Ahead 13 – 19 January 2020 Plenary session, Strasbourg Plenary session, Strasbourg Future of Europe. Parliament will set out its vision on the set-up and scope of the 2020- 2022 “Conference on the Future of Europe”, following a debate with Council President Michel and Commission President von der Leyen on Wednesday morning. In an unprecedented bottom-up approach, MEPs want citizens to be at the core of EU reform. ( debate and vote Wednesday) Green Deal/Transition Fund. MEPs will discuss with the Commission legislative Agenda proposals on the “Just Transition Mechanism and Fund”, which seek to help EU communities succeed in making the transition to low carbon in a debate on Tuesday. Parliament will also outline its views on the overall package of the Green Deal in a vote on a resolution on Wednesday. Croatian Presidency. Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković will present the priorities of the rotating Council presidency for the next six months, focussing on a Europe that is developing, a Europe that connects, a Europe that protects, and an influential Europe. EP President Sassoli and Prime Minister Plenković will hold a press conference at 12.00. ( Tuesday) Brexit/Citizens’ rights. MEPs are set to express their concern over how the UK and EU27 governments will manage citizens’ rights after Brexit. The draft text highlights that the fair and balanced provisions to protect citizens’ rights during and after the transition period, contained in the Withdrawal Agreement, must be thoroughly implemented. ( Wednesday) Iran/Iraq. MEPs will debate the consequences of the latest confrontation between the US and Iran with EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell.

    Brussels, 27 March 2017 Dear Mr. Dijsselbloem, Earlier this week we have known the statements you have made to a communication media, which we consider unequivocally discriminatory and offensive against several EU countries as well as offensive and sexist towards women. Shortly after the publication of your statements, you had the opportunity to rectify at the European Parliament, but you avoided doing so. On the contrary, instead of apologizing, you have said that the problem is that we do not understand the direct style of speech known to Calvinist culture. In our opinion, Calvinist culture has nothing to do with disdain for other people. This is the reason why we are again asking you - as representatives of European citizens, who have chosen us directly - to reflect and to rectify. Your statements attack one of the most important values that underpin our European Union: equality. In the last six decades, we have all managed together, Mr Dijsselbloem, to materialize a dream that once seemed unthinkable: that Europeans should be equal in opportunities, rights and obligations. The EU is not just rules, meetings and political decisions. What supports all of this, what gives meaning to the EU, are our common values, and equality as the most important one. Therefore, respecting these values should be the first obligation for any European leader, Mr Dijsselbloem. This includes assuming that European citizens, like any human being, are all equally respectable, regardless of our gender and our country of origin or residence. Attacking a certain group of countries as you have done is attacking each one of the EU countries.
