Citizens Advice Chief Executive Says
Citizens Advice Press release Photograph by Lorraine Fitch, L & L Photography and Video Sarah Telford, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Advice Stroud and Cotswold Districts welcomed Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal to the Charity’s Long Service Awards on Tuesday 9th April 2019 at The Subscription Rooms in Stroud. The Awards recognised ten staff members and fourteen volunteers who had worked within Citizens Advice for over 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years. Two of our volunteers had volunteered with Citizens Advice for 32 years each. Ann Horner, a volunteer with 32 years long service stated “The Princess Royal's contribution both in her speech to us and by talking to us individually, showed what a broad knowledge she has of all we try to do. Her visit was a wonderful way to celebrate the many years of work advising and also the history of the service and, of course, the need to continue raising funds to maintain this vital charity”. Her Royal Highness has been Patron of Citizens Advice since 1990 and continues to be a fantastic ambassador for the service. All rights reserved. 1 | 18 European Parliament Elections 2014 1.0 Introduction This briefing is part of DeHavilland EU’s Foresight Report series on the 2014 European elections and provides a preliminary overview of the candidates standing in the UK for election to the European Parliament in 2014. In the United Kingdom, the election for the country’s 73 Members of the European Parliament will be held on Thursday 22 May 2014. The elections come at a crucial junction for UK-EU relations, and are likely to have far-reaching consequences for the UK’s relationship with the rest of Europe: a surge in support for the UK Independence Party (UKIP) could lead to a Britain that is increasingly dis-engaged from the EU policy-making process. In parallel, the current UK Government is also conducting a review of the EU’s powers and Prime Minister David Cameron has repeatedly pushed for a ‘repatriation’ of powers from the European to the national level. These long-term political developments aside, the elections will also have more direct and tangible consequences. -

It is more commonly found on the left of the political spectrum where it masks itself as anti-Zionism and uses the language of human rights in the “fight for Palestine.”1 The 2006 All-Party Parliamentary Group Against Antisemitism found that Holocaust inversion— the provocative comparison between the brutal and genocidal Nazi treatment of the Jews with the policies and practices of the Israeli state towards the Palestinians and the associated idea that “the Jews” should have learnt a moral lesson from the Holocaust—is commonplace among the British left and Palestine solidarity groups, particularly during periods of conflict in the Middle East.2 Indeed, the portrayal of Israelis/Zionists/Jews as Nazis was a prominent feature of protests against the Iraq War, Operation Cast Lead, Operation Pillar of Defence, and most recently, Operation Protective Edge. -

By letter of 4 May 2001 the Council forwarded to Parliament its annual report on the main aspects and basic choices of the CFSP, including the financial implications for the general budget of the European Communities; this document was submitted to Parliament pursuant to point H, paragraph 40, of the Interinstitutional Agreement of 6 May 1999 (7853/2001 – 2001/2007(INI)). At the sitting of 14 May 2001 the President of Parliament announced that she had referred this document to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy as the committee responsible (C5-0194/2001).
