N & S, August 2019 The Bodleian dates back to 1488, with its very first 300 books donated by Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester. Over the last 400 years the library has expanded and now holds over 12 million printed items and special collections, making it one of the most notorious libraries in the world. The library now offers its grandest rooms for private hire, giving couples the chance to enjoy these spectacular spaces on the most special day of their lives. Divinity School

The Divinity School is the grandest room in the Old Bodleian Library, and leads from the Old Schools Quad. Completed in 1488, it is a masterpiece of late gothic architecture with a magnificent stone carved ceiling.The huge arched windows down both sides create College Style Seating shafts of light which give a dramatic effect to 120 Guests the room. Adjoining the Divinity School, Convocation House is a 17th century building that was constructed as a meeting place for the University’s supreme legislative body.
