SmartMusic Technical Guide for: MS and HS Band Performance ACP
General Instructions: Use these instructions to select the SmartMusic assignments for all students taking the Performance (sight-reading) ACP. Make sure you have enrolled all students into SmartMusic prior to the assessment. It is recommended to conduct a practice run before the actual performance assessment window, May 18-27. You will be notified of the actual assignments used for the Performance (sight-reading) ACP on May 18. Students are tested individually. Schedule enough time to allow each student to log into his or her account and to perform the four assigned sight-readings. Students need to know their login information. It is recommended that you conduct a practice run with the students before the testing date. After all students have completed the Performance ACP using SmartMusic, export the results into Excel and email the file to your Test Coordinator.

The red arrow is pointing to a QuickStart video that will explain everything included in this manual. If preferred, watch this video for instructions on how to set up a unit and assignment.
Click FIND MUSIC on the left side of the screen (by the red arrow shown below).
Page 1 of 8 On the FIND MUSIC screen, click on Sight-Reading Exercises (see red arrow).
Next, click the Sight-Reading Exercises level that corresponds to the assignment being created. For example, the arrow below is pointing to Level 1.
From this screen, double-click on the corresponding exercise to open (see red arrow).
Page 2 of 8 On the next screen, click the Assignment tab (see red arrow).
The Assignment screen below will appear. Make sure the information on your screen is identical to what is showing in this image (see red arrow on left). Once verified and information is entered, click + Add to unit (see red arrow on right).
Page 3 of 8 In the next screen under Name, add name of school and the words School SmartMusic in the dialog box, then click CREATE (see red arrow). If you participated last semester this will already exist.
Next, click on your School SmartMusic unit (red arrow on left) and then click the ADD button (red arrow on right).
The screen below will appear. It will say Assignment Added to Unit. Next, click on VIEW ASSIGNMENT LIBRARY (see red arrow).
Page 4 of 8 On the screen shown below, click on the School SmartMusic hyperlink (upper red arrow) and then the SCHEDULE button that corresponds to the item being added (lower red arrow).
The screen below will appear. Enter 100 in the Assessment space (upper red arrow); then click the ASSIGN TO button to assign this test to all students in the class (lower red arrow). Make sure the due date is sometime after May 27 so you have time to complete the assessment.
All of your students should now have a new assessment.
Page 5 of 8 Now your students are ready to login to their account and complete the four assignments for the Performance ACP.
After all students have tested, click on the HOME tab. The screen below will appear.
To submit assessment grades, click on the GRADEBOOK button shown below (see red arrow).
On the GRADEBOOK page, click PRINT AND EXPORT (see red arrow).
Page 6 of 8 Next, click on the Gradebook button (first red arrow). Make sure all boxes are checked under the Student Info bar (second red arrow), including Name, Student ID, Instrument, and Grade. Under the Assignments bar, click the Selected Assignments button (no arrow shown). Click the button that appears to select only the assignments corresponding to the Performance ACP. Finally, under the Format bar, change Export format to .xls-Microsoft Excel (third red arrow), then click EXPORT (fourth red arrow). The last page of this guide contains a sample of what your file should look like.
Next, type your school name as the name of the document (see red arrow) and then save in a familiar location (one you can find later). Never edit the file. Once saved, send it as an attachment in an email to your school’s Test Coordinator.

NOTE: For security purposes, an outdated export file is shown here. Your export file will contain information not shown in this sample. (e.g., all Band Performance ACPs will include four exercises each, not three, in both semesters.)
WARNING: Never edit a SmartMusic export file. These are protected documents, and may not be changed. If your file looks different from the sample above, try exporting again. If any part of the file is incorrect, make a note in the email to your Test Coordinator, so the Test Coordinator can notify Local Assessment.
